Pope Leo XIV on Friday said peaceful societies can be achieved if governments invested in families \u201cfounded upon the stable union between a man and a woman\u201d in his first address to the diplomatic corps accredited to the Holy See.<\/p>\n

Welcoming more than 100 ambassadors to an audience held inside the Vatican\u2019s Clementine Hall, the Holy Father stated that resolving global inequalities as well as deep divisions between \u201ccontinents, countries, and individual societies\u201d starts in the home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis can be achieved above all by investing in the family, founded upon the stable union between a man and a woman, \u2018a small but genuine society, and prior to all civil society,\u2019\u201d he added, citing \u0631\u0648\u0645 \u0646\u0648\u0641\u0627\u0631\u0648\u0645<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndeed, the Church can never be exempted from speaking the truth about humanity and\u00a0the world, resorting whenever necessary to blunt language that may initially create misunderstanding,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

In his May 16 audience with the diplomatic corps, the Holy Father said peace, justice, and truth are the \u201cthree essential words\u201d and pillars of the Church\u2019s evangelical mission and outreach and \u201cthe aim of the Holy See\u2019s diplomacy\u201d with states and sovereignties.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first word is peace,\u201d he said. \u201cAll too often we consider it a \u2018negative\u2019 word, indicative only of the absence of war and conflict, since opposition is a perennial part of human nature, frequently leading us to live in a constant \u2018state of conflict\u2019 at home, at work, and in society.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reiterating his message of peace on the day of his May 8 election, the Holy Father told the ambassadors present at the gathering that peace, \u201cthe first gift of Christ,\u201d is an \u201cactive and demanding gift\u201d necessary for building relationships. <\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that religions and interreligious dialogue can make a fundamental contribution to fostering a climate of peace,\u201d he said. \u201cThis naturally requires full respect for religious freedom in every country, since religious experience is an essential dimension of the human person.\u201d <\/p>\n
