He also held an early meeting with cardinals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/264031\/the-american-pope-s-vision-leo-xiv-talks-choice-of-name-priorities-in-first-meeting-with-cardinals\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">where they were invited to speak up<\/a> on whatever issue concerned them, something that had not happened under Francis since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the qualities expected in the successor of St. Peter, he said, \u201cif the rock is Christ, Peter must shepherd the flock without ever yielding to the temptation to be an autocrat, lording it over those entrusted to him.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"twitter-wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Pope Leo XIV gets emotional as he receives the Fisherman\u2019s Ring, a special gold ring bearing the image of St. Peter and the Pope\u2019s name and seal. The pallium, which has two black flaps and three pins representing the nails of Christ\u2019s cross, symbolizes the bishop as the good shepherd and Christ the Lamb crucified for the salvation of the human race.<\/p>\n<p>The gold fisherman\u2019s ring, a part of the papal insignia since the first millennium, has the image of St. Peter with the keys and fisherman\u2019s net, a symbol of authority and the duty entrusted to St. Peter by Jesus, to be \u201ca fisher of men.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"twitter-wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This exquisite Flemish tapestry depicts the dialogue between Jesus and Peter after the miraculous catch of fish.
