As the 100th day of Pope Leo XIV\u2019s pontificate approaches, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States and the Vatican have a \u201cgood relationship, but it\u2019s new.\u201d He explained: \u201cA new papacy\u201d brings \u201ca new direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a Thursday \u0645\u0642\u0627\u0628\u0644\u0629<\/a> with EWTN\u2019s \u201cThe World Over with Raymond Arroyo,\u201d Rubio explained the first American pope can benefit U.S. and Vatican relations because the pope can understand Americans\u2019 \u201chistory, our politics, our culture, [and] what\u2019s going on here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rubio discussed that when previously interacting with leaders of the Catholic Church, they were \u201calmost invariably from some other country.\u201d So when in Rome for Pope Leo XIV\u2019s installation, Rubio said it was \u201calmost surreal\u201d to \u201cinteract with an American.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cRight now it\u2019s new and the papacy has only been there for less than 100 days,\u201d Rubio said. But there has already been \u201cgood communication\u201d between the nation and the Vatican, specifically about the Catholic church attacked in Gaza<\/a>, he said. Following the bombing, Rubio indicated, the U.S. spoke with the Church \u201cextensively about Gaza\u201d and \u201cto facilitate visits.\u201d<\/p>\n
