Keeping Hope Alive in a Difficult Season: 5 Powerful Techniques

Keeping Hope Alive in a Difficult Season: 5 Powerful Techniques

That we have lost hope because of the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic is no secret. Hope seems elusive, and many now wonder what the future holds for them. One minute we were making plans and swearing by them, and the next minute we were uncertain about our very existence. In times of crisis, we look for hope that one day things will go back to normal.

The reality we face in the current season is that things will not go back to normal, but we will have to adapt to a new way of doing things. This uncertainty makes us anxious and fearful about the future. People have lost hope because of their suffering, loss of loved ones, jobs, relationships, property, and sense of direction. Our only source of hope in times like these is the Lord.

Where Should Our Hope Be?

Psalm 31:24 tells us that we should be of good courage, and the Lord will strengthen our hearts because we hope in Him. He knows that we will go through difficult seasons, and when we put our hope in Him, we will overcome everything that comes our way.

We can no longer put our hope in worldly solutions but in the God who is almighty and powerful. According to Psalm 33:17, a horse is a vain hope for safety, and it cannot deliver anyone by its great strength. This means that the sources of help and hope we are used to will disappoint us. If we found security in cash reserves, now we have none; if our jobs provided for our needs, now they are gone; those we thought would be there for us are gone.

The Word of God gives us encouragement to face difficulties in our lives and overcome them. If you find yourself needing hope today, open your Bible and hear what God says to you.

Below are 5 ways that will help you keep hope alive in your most difficult moments.

Cry out to the Lord

The Bible says that the righteous cry out to the Lord, and He hears them and delivers them out of all their troubles (Psalm 34:17). God responds to our cries and delivers us from all our troubles, not some of them. This is definitely a source of hope. God is an ever-present help, and it is not His will that you suffer. His desire is to deliver you and make the bad things work for your good (Romans 8:28).

Difficult seasons can make us angry at God and have no desire to reach out to Him. This sounds like a plan of the enemy to keep you from the hope that is yours in the Lord. We live in a world that brings unpleasant things our way, and our hope is found in turning to the Lord for healing and restoration. Cry out to God today and trust that He will answer you.

Follow the Lord’s Instructions

God wants to do a new thing in your life and promises to make a way for it to happen (Isaiah 43:19). However, He also needs us to take action as He gives us instructions. His way of doing things may not make sense initially, but soon you will understand what He is doing.

Isaac is one man who obeyed the Lord’s instruction not to go to Egypt but to remain in Gerar during a time of famine. And because he obeyed God, he reaped a harvest of a hundredfold that year (Genesis 26:12). It’s hard imagining that God can bless you with a hundredfold in the current season. It is possible if you follow His instructions.

Turn to the Word of God

If we are to keep hope alive in a difficult season, turning to the Word of God is what we must do. Psalm 119:49 is a prayer by the psalmist, and it says, “Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope.” God’s Word has His promises to you, and when He gives you a word for the season, it will fill you with hope because it will never fail.

Hold on to the promises God gives you because they will leave you feeling hopeful, and you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. As you read the Bible, declare the words that God gives you over your circumstances, and you will see them change for the better. God is your hiding place and shield, hope in His Word.

Acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior

In 1 Timothy 1:1, the apostle Paul acknowledges Jesus as our hope. This means that if we want lasting hope to take us through the difficult seasons of our lives, we need Jesus. For those who are not born again, this is the time to accept God’s gift of salvation through Christ. This relationship is what gives you access to God’s promises of hope and deliverance.

For those who are born again, hold on to your relationship with Christ, especially now, and don’t let go because you think He has disappointed you. He hasn’t. He will never leave nor forsake you.

Think Positive and Godly Thoughts

With all the negative reports in the news, it’s no wonder that we struggle to see any hope for a better future. There is no hope in the news reports we hear daily, and the negative thoughts that come into our minds make us feel worse every day.

We have to be vigilant about the thoughts we allow into our minds. Now is the time to have thoughts that are pure, praiseworthy, and of good report (Philippians 4:8). Read godly content that will give you hope. It is only God who can turn things around in your favor. The good news is that He is not limited by your circumstances.

Our Hope Will Remain Alive in God

As we keep our eyes on God, our hope will remain alive, and we will not be shaken by the difficult seasons we go through in life. God will preserve your life as you put your trust in Him.
