Der Zeitpunkt des Verbots f\u00e4llt mit einer wichtigen Versammlung armenischer Bisch\u00f6fe zusammen, die diese Woche in \u00d6sterreich stattfinden sollte, und hinderte den Katholikos an der Teilnahme.<\/p>\n<p>Die Anklage st\u00fctzt sich auf die Entscheidung des Katholikos, Bischof Saroyan zu laisieren, der zuvor \u00f6ffentlich den R\u00fccktritt des Katholikos gefordert hatte. Bischof Saroyan wurde im Januar zun\u00e4chst von seiner F\u00fchrungsposition als Di\u00f6zesanleiter entbunden, bevor die Gerichte die Kirche anwiesen, ihn vor\u00fcbergehend wieder einzusetzen. Der Katholikos reagierte darauf mit seiner vollst\u00e4ndigen Laisierung.<\/p>\n<p>Die Staatsanwaltschaft argumentiert, dass die Laisierung eine rechtswidrige Behinderung der gerichtlichen Anordnung darstellt \u2013 ein Vorwurf, den Kritiker der Strafverfolgung als den j\u00fcngsten in einer langen Reihe von Regierungsma\u00dfnahmen anf\u00fchren, die darauf abzielen, die Unabh\u00e4ngigkeit der Armenischen Apostolischen Kirche bei der Verwaltung ihrer internen Angelegenheiten zu schw\u00e4chen.<\/p>\n<p>Menschenrechtsbeobachter und Verfechter der Religionsfreiheit haben begonnen, sich gegen das Vorgehen der Regierung auszusprechen. Paschinjan hat wiederholt den R\u00fccktritt des Katholikos gefordert und auf einem beispiellosen Ma\u00df an staatlicher Aufsicht und Einflussnahme auf kirchliche Angelegenheiten bestanden.<\/p>\n<p>Letzte Woche besuchte US-Vizepr\u00e4sident JD Vance Armenien; dies war das erste Mal, dass ein amtierender US-Pr\u00e4sident oder Vizepr\u00e4sident das Land besuchte. Neben anderen Stationen besuchten er und seine Frau eine Gedenkst\u00e4tte f\u00fcr den V\u00f6lkermord an den Armeniern zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts.
