{"id":49473,"date":"2025-10-16T08:34:56","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T08:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/christianpure.com\/?p=49473"},"modified":"2025-10-16T08:34:56","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T08:34:56","slug":"swedish-cardinal-reflects-on-conclave-says-hes-grateful-for-pope-leo-xiv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianpure.com\/es\/learn\/swedish-cardinal-reflects-on-conclave-says-hes-grateful-for-pope-leo-xiv\/","title":{"rendered":"Cardenal sueco reflexiona sobre el c\u00f3nclave, dice estar \u2018agradecido\u2019 por el Papa Le\u00f3n XIV"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 100%; margin-bottom: 25px;\">\n  <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/images\/New_cardinal_Bishop_Anders_Arborelius_of_Stockholm_Sweden_at_the_consistory_in_St_Peters_Basilica_on_June_28_2017_Credit_Daniel_Ibanez_2_CNA.jpg?ssl=1\" style=\"display: block; margin: auto; max-width: 100%\" \/><br \/>\n  <span style=\"text-align: right; font-style: italic;\">Cardinal Anders Arborelius of Stockholm at the consistory in St. Peter\u2019s Basilica on June 28, 2017. \/ Credit: Daniel Iba\u00f1ez\/CNA<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<p>Stockholm, Sweden, Jun 9, 2025 \/ 14:30 pm (CNA).<\/p>\n<p>The conclave that elected Pope Leo XIV was first and foremost a unifying experience, despite the frantic pace and intrigue, said Swedish Cardinal Anders Arborelius.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe conclave was a wonderful experience of unity in the Church and openness to the voice of the Spirit,\u201d Arborelius told CNA on June 5. \u201cIt was also very well organized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, one of the primary challenges for the cardinals at the conclave was getting to know one another, especially those from faraway countries.<\/p>\n<p>During the general congregations prior to the conclave, when cardinals discussed the challenges that the Church and the new pope would face, Arborelius told the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/05\/04\/world\/europe\/papal-conclave-politics.html\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"> New York Times<\/a> that the \u201ccardinals don\u2019t know each other so well\u201d and that he himself felt \u201clost all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cardinal explained to CNA that the College of Cardinals got \u201can overview of the universal Church but not so much guidance for electing a pope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was interesting to meet all the cardinals and listen to them but also a bit tiring to listen for hours,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, despite constant media speculation, the surprise election of then-Cardinal Robert Prevost as the 266th successor to St. Peter was welcomed by the Swedish cardinal who, as a member of the Dicastery for Bishops, knew him well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was really an experience of God\u2019s grace to see a cardinal who suddenly became the vicar of Christ, and I could feel that he was the right person, chosen by God,\u201d the cardinal told CNA.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He also said he was \u201cstruck\u201d by Pope Leo\u2019s \u201chumility and simplicity\u201d when addressing the thousands of people gathered in St. Peter\u2019s Square after his election, which he said was \u201ca sign of the Holy Spirit and his guidance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Within the first month of his pontificate, Pope Leo set about visiting officials from the Vatican dicasteries and offices. For Arborelius, the many meetings show that \u201che is a person eager to establish dialogue on so many levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very grateful for Pope Leo, and it is extraordinary that he has been able to achieve so much in a short period,\u201d the cardinal said.<\/p>\n<p>His election, he added, \u201cmeans that we enter a new chapter in the history of the Church and we have to be open to divine providence and how Pope Leo will guide us to holiness in a secular and divided world that badly needs the Gospel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arborelius said that, although he would appreciate a papal visit from Pope Leo XIV, he hopes that the new pope will be able to visit Catholics in the neighboring countries of Scandinavia.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am sure he will visit many countries.
