Bien qu'\u00e9lev\u00e9 selon la religion et la culture pa\u00efennes azt\u00e8ques, il a fait preuve d'un sens mystique et inhabituel de la vie, m\u00eame avant d'entendre l'\u00c9vangile de la bouche des missionnaires franciscains.<\/p>\n<p>En 1524, Cuauhtlatoatzin et sa femme se sont convertis et sont entr\u00e9s dans l'\u00c9glise catholique. Le fermier d\u00e9sormais connu sous le nom de Juan Diego \u00e9tait d\u00e9vou\u00e9 \u00e0 sa foi, parcourant souvent de longues distances pour recevoir une instruction religieuse. En d\u00e9cembre 1531, il allait \u00eatre le b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiaire d'un miracle qui allait changer le monde.<\/p>\n<p>Le 9 d\u00e9cembre, Juan Diego se d\u00e9p\u00eachait d'aller \u00e0 la messe pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer la f\u00eate de l'Immacul\u00e9e Conception. Mais la femme qu'il se rendait \u00e0 l'\u00e9glise pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer est venue \u00e0 lui.<\/p>\n<p>Dans le dialecte azt\u00e8que natif, la femme rayonnante s'est annonc\u00e9e comme \u00ab la toujours parfaite sainte Marie, qui a l'honneur d'\u00eatre la m\u00e8re du vrai Dieu \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Je suis ta M\u00e8re compatissante, la tienne et celle de tous les peuples qui vivent ensemble sur cette terre \u00bb, a-t-elle poursuivi, \u00ab ainsi que de toutes les autres lign\u00e9es d'hommes \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Elle a demand\u00e9 \u00e0 Juan Diego de faire une requ\u00eate \u00e0 l'\u00e9v\u00eaque local. \u00ab Je veux vraiment qu'ils construisent ma petite maison sacr\u00e9e ici \u00bb \u2014 une maison d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 son fils J\u00e9sus-Christ, sur le site d'un ancien temple pa\u00efen, qui \u00ab le montrerait \u00bb \u00e0 tous les Mexicains et \u00ab l'exalterait \u00bb dans le monde entier.<\/p>\n<p>Elle demandait beaucoup \u00e0 un fermier indig\u00e8ne. Sans surprise, sa demande audacieuse a \u00e9t\u00e9 accueillie avec scepticisme par l'\u00e9v\u00eaque Juan de Zum\u00e1rraga. Mais Juan Diego a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu'il apporterait la preuve de l'apparition, apr\u00e8s avoir fini de s'occuper de son oncle dont la mort semblait imminente.<\/p>\n<p>En se rendant \u00e0 l'\u00e9glise le 12 d\u00e9cembre pour appeler un pr\u00eatre pour son oncle, Juan Diego a de nouveau rencontr\u00e9 la Sainte Vierge. Elle a promis de gu\u00e9rir son oncle et de lui donner un signe \u00e0 montrer \u00e0 l'\u00e9v\u00eaque. Sur la colline o\u00f9 ils s'\u00e9taient rencontr\u00e9s pour la premi\u00e8re fois, il trouverait des roses et d'autres fleurs, bien que ce f\u00fbt l'hiver.<\/p>\n<p>Faisant ce qu'elle lui demandait, il a trouv\u00e9 les fleurs et les lui a rapport\u00e9es. La Vierge Marie a alors plac\u00e9 les fleurs dans sa tilma, le v\u00eatement traditionnel en forme de cape qu'il portait. Elle lui a dit de ne pas d\u00e9baller la tilma contenant les fleurs avant d'avoir atteint l'\u00e9v\u00eaque.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsqu'il l'a fait, l'\u00e9v\u00eaque Zum\u00e1rraga a eu sa propre rencontre avec Notre-Dame de Guadalupe \u2013 \u00e0 travers l'image d'elle qu'il a trouv\u00e9e miraculeusement imprim\u00e9e sur la tilma remplie de fleurs. La basilique de Mexico qui abrite d\u00e9sormais la tilma est devenue, selon certaines estimations, le sanctuaire catholique le plus visit\u00e9 au monde.<\/p>\n<p>Le miracle qui a apport\u00e9 l'\u00c9vangile \u00e0 des millions de Mexicains a \u00e9galement servi \u00e0 approfondir la vie spirituelle de Juan Diego. Pendant de nombreuses ann\u00e9es apr\u00e8s cette exp\u00e9rience, il a v\u00e9cu une vie solitaire de pri\u00e8re et de travail dans un ermitage pr\u00e8s de l'\u00e9glise o\u00f9 l'image a \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9e pour la premi\u00e8re fois.
