Bas\u00e9e \u00e0 Dublin, Iona Institute for Religion and Society<\/a> has released a rapport complet<\/a> qui met en lumi\u00e8re des changements significatifs dans les attitudes et les pratiques religieuses en Irlande.<\/p>\n

Actualisant les r\u00e9sultats d'une enqu\u00eate similaire men\u00e9e en 2011, Am\u00e1rach Research a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 la derni\u00e8re \u00e9tude et l'a command\u00e9e en deux \u00e9tapes : une enqu\u00eate aupr\u00e8s de 1 000 adultes en f\u00e9vrier, suivie d'une seconde enqu\u00eate en mars.<\/p>\n

Une d\u00e9couverte frappante remet en question le r\u00e9cit du d\u00e9clin de la religiosit\u00e9 chez les jeunes adultes.<\/p>\n

Parmi les 18-24 ans (g\u00e9n\u00e9ration Z), 17% s'identifient comme religieux, contre seulement 5% des 25-34 ans (mill\u00e9niaux). De plus, 54% de la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration Z se d\u00e9crivent comme religieux et\/ou spirituels, contre 46% des mill\u00e9niaux. Ce groupe est \u00e9galement plus engag\u00e9 dans le contenu spirituel : les 18-24 ans sont plus susceptibles de lire des livres religieux ou spirituels, de regarder du contenu connexe et de suivre des influenceurs spirituels sur les r\u00e9seaux sociaux, y compris sur des plateformes comme \u00abFaithTok<\/a>\u00bb, que leurs homologues l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus \u00e2g\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

David Quinn, PDG de l'Iona Institute, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 \u00e0 CNA qu'il pense que \u00ab les jeunes s'aper\u00e7oivent que la la\u00efcit\u00e9 ne suffit pas. Elle n'a aucune r\u00e9ponse aux grandes questions de la vie et rien \u00e0 dire sur le sens et le but de l'existence. Les gens auront toujours soif de ces choses. La religion les leur apporte. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Quinn a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que les conclusions de l'enqu\u00eate sont coh\u00e9rentes avec un rapport r\u00e9cemment publi\u00e9 intitul\u00e9 \u00abLe renouveau silencieux<\/a>\u00bb. Command\u00e9 par l'organisation bas\u00e9e au Royaume-Uni Bible Society<\/a>, le rapport constate que la religiosit\u00e9 est \u00e9galement en hausse chez les 18-24 ans en Grande-Bretagne, avec une croissance particuli\u00e8re dans les \u00e9glises catholique romaine et pentec\u00f4tiste.<\/p>\n

L'enqu\u00eate d'Iona r\u00e9v\u00e8le que les pratiquants r\u00e9guliers, qui repr\u00e9sentent 16% des r\u00e9pondants, ont l'opinion la plus favorable de l'\u00c9glise, tandis que les 22% qui ne s'identifient pas comme catholiques \u2014 ce qui correspond \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s aux donn\u00e9es du recensement de 2022<\/a> \u2014 expriment les sentiments les plus n\u00e9gatifs. Les \u00ab catholiques culturels \u00bb, soit 62% des r\u00e9pondants qui d\u00e9clarent s'identifier comme catholiques mais assistent rarement \u00e0 la messe, se situent entre les deux. <\/p>\n

L'enqu\u00eate souligne un sentiment public partag\u00e9 \u00e0 l'\u00e9gard des figures religieuses, les attitudes envers les pr\u00eatres et les religieuses \u00e9tant r\u00e9parties \u00e9quitablement : 33% les per\u00e7oivent positivement, 33% n\u00e9gativement, et le reste demeure neutre. <\/p>\n

Les r\u00e9pondants surestiment le nombre d'agresseurs sexuels d'enfants au sein du clerg\u00e9 de pr\u00e8s de 4 pour 1, en moyenne, bien que ce chiffre soit inf\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui de l'enqu\u00eate de 2011. <\/p>\n

Alors que 50% des r\u00e9pondants d\u00e9clarent avoir une opinion positive du christianisme et seulement 20% une opinion n\u00e9gative, l'\u00c9glise catholique en tant qu'institution obtient des r\u00e9sultats moins favorables. Seuls 27% ont une opinion favorable de l'\u00c9glise, tandis que 40% la per\u00e7oivent de mani\u00e8re d\u00e9favorable, probablement influenc\u00e9s par l'h\u00e9ritage des scandales d'abus cl\u00e9ricaux. Cependant, 45% conviennent que les enseignements catholiques restent b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques pour la soci\u00e9t\u00e9, 32% \u00e9tant en d\u00e9saccord, ce qui sugg\u00e8re que les enseignements moraux et th\u00e9ologiques de l'\u00c9glise r\u00e9sonnent plus profond\u00e9ment que l'institution elle-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n

Notamment, 25% des r\u00e9pondants d\u00e9clarent qu'ils seraient heureux si l'\u00c9glise catholique disparaissait de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 irlandaise, bien que 51% soient en d\u00e9saccord.<\/p>\n

\u00ab D'une certaine mani\u00e8re, il n'est pas surprenant que les attitudes du public envers l'\u00c9glise catholique soient si divis\u00e9es et qu'il y ait une n\u00e9gativit\u00e9 consid\u00e9rable, surtout au vu de tous les scandales qui sont encore frais dans l'esprit du public \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Breda O\u2019Brien, porte-parole de l'Iona Institute, dans un communiqu\u00e9 de presse.<\/p>\n

Cependant, elle a poursuivi : \u00ab Il est bon de voir que beaucoup de gens sont moins n\u00e9gatifs \u00e0 l'\u00e9gard des enseignements de l'\u00c9glise catholique qu'\u00e0 l'\u00e9gard de l'institution. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Quinn a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 \u00e0 CNA qu'il voyait cela comme une opportunit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

\u00ab L'\u00c9glise doit moins parler d'elle-m\u00eame et beaucoup plus de ses enseignements, et faire de son mieux pour mettre ces enseignements en pratique. C'est ce qui attirera les gens \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n
