\u00c0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 le monde offre \u00ab de nombreux contre-exemples \u00bb de ce \u00e0 quoi devrait ressembler un mariage sain, le pape L\u00e9on XIV a exhort\u00e9 les couples \u00e0 se tourner vers les saints Louis et Z\u00e9lie Martin \u2014 les parents de sainte Th\u00e9r\u00e8se de Lisieux \u2014 comme mod\u00e8le d'un mariage joyeux et saint. <\/p>\n

Dans un message du 18 octobre message<\/a> marquant le 10e anniversaire de la canonisation des \u00e9poux Martin, le pape L\u00e9on a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que leurs vies montrent \u00ab le mariage comme un chemin vers la saintet\u00e9 \u00bb et fournissent un exemple dont le monde d'aujourd'hui a un besoin urgent : comment aider ses enfants \u00e0 d\u00e9couvrir l'\u00ab amour et la tendresse infinis \u00bb de Dieu et s'efforcer de les faire L'aimer en retour comme Il le m\u00e9rite. <\/p>\n

\u00ab Parmi les vocations auxquelles les hommes et les femmes sont appel\u00e9s par Dieu, le mariage est l'une des plus nobles et des plus \u00e9lev\u00e9es \u00bb, a \u00e9crit le pape. <\/p>\n

Pourtant, a-t-il ajout\u00e9, \u00ab en ces temps troubl\u00e9s et d\u00e9sorient\u00e9s, o\u00f9 tant de contre-exemples d'unions, souvent \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8res, individualistes et \u00e9go\u00efstes, aux fruits amers et d\u00e9cevants, sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s aux jeunes, la famille telle que le Cr\u00e9ateur l'a voulue pourrait sembler d\u00e9mod\u00e9e et ennuyeuse \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Le pape a d\u00e9crit les \u00e9poux Martin comme un couple qui a trouv\u00e9 un \u00ab bonheur profond \u00bb en donnant la vie, en transmettant la foi et en \u00ab voyant leurs filles grandir et s'\u00e9panouir sous le regard du Seigneur \u00bb. <\/p>\n

Leur exemple, a-t-il dit, r\u00e9v\u00e8le le \u00ab bonheur ineffable et la joie profonde que Dieu accorde, ici-bas comme pour l'\u00e9ternit\u00e9, \u00e0 ceux qui s'engagent sur ce chemin de fid\u00e9lit\u00e9 et de f\u00e9condit\u00e9 \u00bb.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Chers couples, je vous invite \u00e0 pers\u00e9v\u00e9rer courageusement sur le chemin, parfois difficile et laborieux, mais lumineux, que vous avez entrepris \u00bb, a \u00e9crit le pape L\u00e9on. <\/p>\n

\u00ab Mettez surtout J\u00e9sus au centre de vos familles, de vos activit\u00e9s et de vos choix \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9. <\/p>\n

Le message \u00e9tait adress\u00e9 \u00e0 Mgr Bruno Feillets de S\u00e9ez, en France, dont le dioc\u00e8se comprend la premi\u00e8re maison familiale des Martin dans la ville d'Alen\u00e7on, o\u00f9 des c\u00e9l\u00e9brations ont lieu pour l'anniversaire.<\/p>\n

Louis et Marie-Az\u00e9lie (Z\u00e9lie) Martin se sont mari\u00e9s en 1858 \u00e0 la basilique Notre-Dame d'Alen\u00e7on. Avant de se marier, tous deux avaient cherch\u00e9 la vie religieuse \u2014 Louis chez les Augustins et Z\u00e9lie chez les S\u0153urs de la Charit\u00e9 \u2014 mais chacun a discern\u00e9 que Dieu les appelait au mariage.<\/p>\n

Z\u00e9lie a pri\u00e9 pour avoir des enfants qui consacreraient leur vie \u00e0 Dieu, et le couple a \u00e9t\u00e9 b\u00e9ni avec neuf enfants. Quatre sont morts en bas \u00e2ge, et les cinq autres sont devenues religieuses, dont Th\u00e9r\u00e8se, qui deviendra plus tard l'une des saintes les plus aim\u00e9es de l'\u00c9glise et docteur de l'\u00c9glise.<\/p>\n

Th\u00e9r\u00e8se a dit que Dieu lui avait donn\u00e9 \u00ab une m\u00e8re et un p\u00e8re plus dignes du ciel que de la terre \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Z\u00e9lie est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9e d'un cancer du sein en 1877 \u00e0 l'\u00e2ge de 45 ans. Apr\u00e8s la mort de Z\u00e9lie, Louis a d\u00e9m\u00e9nag\u00e9 la famille \u00e0 Lisieux, o\u00f9 quatre de ses filles sont devenues religieuses carm\u00e9lites. <\/p>\n

Les \u00e9poux Martin ont \u00e9t\u00e9 canonis\u00e9s ensemble par le pape Fran\u00e7ois le 18 octobre 2015, devenant le premier couple mari\u00e9 de l'histoire de l'\u00c9glise \u00e0 \u00eatre d\u00e9clar\u00e9 saint ensemble \u2014 un t\u00e9moignage, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le pape L\u00e9on, de la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 durable selon laquelle le mariage, v\u00e9cu fid\u00e8lement, \u00ab conduit \u00e0 la gloire du ciel \u00bb.<\/p>\n
