Muslims Stop Construction of Holyland Prayer Hill

Indonesia (International Christian Concern) — Several Muslims have opposed the construction of a Prayer Hill in Gondangrejo Village, Karanganyar, Central Java, Indonesia.

The Prayer Hill, also known as Holyland, will feature a church, a prayer area, and a theological school. All necessary permits have been obtained, issued by the Regent of Karanganyar.

A group from the Gondangrejo Islamic Community Forum (FKM) firmly stated their rejection. They considered the project a “faith disaster” and openly urged Muslims to reject its construction.

Citing concerns about its potential for social conflict, the Regent of Karanganyar, Robert Christianto, officially postponed the construction of the Holyland Prayer Hill.

The social conflict in question was the rejection by the Gondangrejo Islamic Community Forum, prompting the Regent to issue Regent’s Decree No. 500.16.7/505/2025.

This suspension of construction is in effect until the issues with the community are resolved or until the Regent’s Decree is revoked. The Karanganyar Regent’s decision to postpone the project is seen as a form of surrender to pressure from intolerant groups.
