I tribunali \u201cnon possono decidere e non decidono la questione definitiva in anticipo\u201d, si legge nella sentenza.<\/p>\n<p>La decisione della corte arriva poco pi\u00f9 di un mese dopo che la diocesi di Camden, nel New Jersey, ha dichiarato che avrebbe abbandonato la sua battaglia contro i tentativi dello Stato di convocare il grand jury.<\/p>\n<p>Il vescovo di Camden Joseph Williams ha dichiarato il mese scorso che <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/263925\/new-jersey-bishop-says-diocese-will-drop-fight-against-states-grand-jury-abuse-probe\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">intendeva \u201cfare la cosa giusta\u201d<\/a> per le vittime di abusi. La diocesi di Camden era stata coinvolta in una battaglia pluriennale con lo Stato riguardo alla potenziale convocazione del grand jury.<\/p>\n<p>L'abbandono della battaglia da parte di Williams \u00e8 avvenuto solo poche settimane dopo aver assunto l'incarico di vescovo il 17 marzo.<\/p>\n<p>La diocesi aveva precedentemente sostenuto in parte che il New Jersey \u201cnon pu\u00f2 convocare un grand jury per presentare un atto d'accusa a meno che non riguardi affari o condizioni pubbliche, censuri funzionari pubblici o richiami l'attenzione su condizioni imminenti\u201d. Le accuse di abusi del clero risalenti ad anni fa non soddisfacevano questi standard, aveva affermato la diocesi.<\/p>\n<p>In una lettera al Catholic Star Herald il mese scorso, Williams ha affermato di essere \u201cnuovo nel ruolo di vescovo diocesano e nuovo alle complesse argomentazioni legali e ai procedimenti coinvolti\u201d nel caso in corso.
