Chi ama, capisce ci\u00f2 che dico.\u201d <br \/>-San Giovanni Crisostomo<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Nato ad Antiochia intorno al 347, San Giovanni Crisostomo (Bocca d'oro) fu forse il pi\u00f9 grande predicatore della storia della Chiesa, da cui il nome che gli fu dato, e il pi\u00f9 importante padre greco della Chiesa.<\/p>\n<p>Crebbe ad Antiochia, ricevette un'eccellente educazione greca classica e, dopo aver incontrato il santo vescovo Melezio, decise di dedicare il suo tempo allo studio delle opere religiose e delle Sacre Scritture. Ricevette il Battesimo dopo tre anni di studio e part\u00ec per il deserto per vivere la vita ascetica di un eremita.<\/p>\n<p>Le sue estreme mortificazioni lo lasciarono in salute fragile, cos\u00ec torn\u00f2 ad Antiochia dopo due anni di convalescenza e si dedic\u00f2 agli studi per il sacerdozio. Fu ordinato nel 386 e serv\u00ec nella Cattedrale di Antiochia per 12 anni, guadagnandosi una vasta fama per la sua sublime predicazione.<\/p>\n<p>Nel 398 fu nominato con la forza Patriarca di Costantinopoli e divenne presto molto popolare tra il suo gregge grazie al suo esempio di predicazione e al coraggio di fronte al potere imperiale, la cui corruzione e decadenza non esit\u00f2 mai a criticare in pubblico.<\/p>\n<p>Questo atteggiamento lo rese naturalmente nemico dell'imperatrice Eudossia e di Teofilo, vescovo di Alessandria, che lo fece condannare con false accuse nel 403.
