Acts 4:6, we encounter an Alexander who is mentioned among the high-priestly family in Jerusalem. This reference places an Alexander at the heart of the religious establishment that was grappling with the emerging Christian movement. Later, in Acts 19:33-34, we find another Alexander, this time in Ephesus, who attempts to address a crowd during a tumultuous situation involving the apostle Paul's ministry.<\/p>\n<p>The apostle Paul himself mentions an Alexander in his letters. In 1 Timothy 1:20, Paul speaks of an Alexander whom he has \"handed over to Satan,\" suggesting a serious breach in the faith community. Again, in 2 Timothy 4:14-15, Paul warns Timothy about \"Alexander the coppersmith,\" who had done him great harm and strongly opposed the message.<\/p>\n<p>\u5fc3\u7406\u5b66\u7684\u306b\u898b\u308b\u3068\u3001\u30e6\u30c0\u30e4\u6559\u306e\u796d\u53f8\u8077\u304b\u3089\u7570\u90a6\u4eba\u306e\u4e16\u754c\u3001\u305d\u3057\u3066\u521d\u671f\u30ad\u30ea\u30b9\u30c8\u6559\u5171\u540c\u4f53\u306b\u81f3\u308b\u307e\u3067\u3001\u3055\u307e\u3056\u307e\u306a\u6587\u8108\u3067\u3053\u306e\u540d\u524d\u304c\u767b\u5834\u3059\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306f\u3001\u5f53\u6642\u306e\u8907\u96d1\u306a\u793e\u4f1a\u529b\u5b66\u3092\u53cd\u6620\u3057\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002\u305d\u308c\u306f\u3001\u540c\u3058\u540d\u524d\u3092\u6301\u3064\u500b\u4eba\u304c\u3001\u521d\u671f\u30ad\u30ea\u30b9\u30c8\u6559\u306e\u5c55\u958b\u3059\u308b\u30c9\u30e9\u30de\u306e\u4e2d\u3067\u3044\u304b\u306b\u5927\u304d\u304f\u7570\u306a\u308b\u5f79\u5272\u3092\u679c\u305f\u3057\u5f97\u308b\u304b\u3092\u793a\u3057\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n<p>I am compelled to note that the presence of the name Alexander in the New Testament is a testament to the Hellenistic influence on the world in which Christianity was born. This name, of Greek origin, had become common throughout the Mediterranean world following the conquests of Alexander the Great, reflecting the cultural and linguistic shifts that had occurred in the centuries preceding Christ's birth.<\/p>\n<p>\u30a2\u30ec\u30af\u30b5\u30f3\u30c0\u30fc\u3068\u3044\u3046\u540d\u524d\u306f\u8056\u66f8\u306b\u767b\u5834\u3057\u307e\u3059\u304c\u3001\u3053\u308c\u3089\u306e\u4eba\u7269\u306f\u8056\u66f8\u306e\u7269\u8a9e\u306e\u4e2d\u5fc3\u4eba\u7269\u3067\u306f\u306a\u3044\u3053\u3068\u3092\u8a8d\u8b58\u3059\u308b\u3053\u3068\u304c\u91cd\u8981\u3067\u3059\u3002\u5f7c\u3089\u306e\u8a00\u53ca\u306f\u4ed8\u968f\u7684\u306a\u3082\u306e\u3067\u3059\u304c\u3001\u521d\u671f\u6559\u4f1a\u306e\u793e\u4f1a\u7684\u30fb\u6587\u5316\u7684\u74b0\u5883\u306b\u3064\u3044\u3066\u306e\u8cb4\u91cd\u306a\u6d1e\u5bdf\u3092\u63d0\u4f9b\u3057\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n<p>In our spiritual reflection, we must remember that every name in scripture, whether prominent or seemingly insignificant, contributes to the greater story of God's relationship with humanity. While Alexander is not a native Hebrew name, its meaning of \"defender\" or \"protector\" aligns well with several Hebrew concepts. For instance, the Hebrew word \"magen\" (\u00d7\u017e\u00d6\u00b8\u00d7\u2019\u00d6\u00b5\u00d7\u0178), meaning \"shield\" or \"defender,\" is often used in reference to God as the protector of His people.
