word \u201cgast\u201d (which later evolved into \u201cghost\u201d) was used to translate the Greek \u201cpneuma.\u201d At that time, \u201cghost\u201d simply meant \u201cspirit\u201d or \u201csoul,\u201d without the spooky connotations it has acquired in modern usage. The King James Version of the Bible, published in 1611, consistently used \u201cHoly Ghost,\u201d which had a major impact on English-speaking Christian terminology for centuries (Blair &amp; Wordsworth, 1926, p. 1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
