The Archdiocese of Hamburg in Germany has drawn sharp criticism from former Catholic school students and others following the unveiling of a controversial 33-page sexuality education framework that critics say breaks with Catholic teaching on gender and sexual orientation.<\/p>\n

\u8056\u66f8\u306f \u3053\u306e\u6587\u66f8<\/a>, titled \u201cMale, Female, Diverse: Framework for Sexual Education at Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Hamburg,\u201d is scheduled for implementation across all 15 Catholic school locations in Hamburg beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.<\/p>\n

Document demands acceptance<\/h2>\n

Vicar General Father Sascha-Philipp Gei\u00dfler, SAC, said during the presentation that the document would not introduce new theology but advocate for \u201ca relationship-ethically based view of love, partnership, marriage, family, and sexuality\u201d while promoting \u201cacceptance of diversity regarding sexual orientations and gender identity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new framework explicitly states that \u201crecognition of different identities and sexual orientations will be actively promoted.\u201d<\/p>\n

Under \u201cgender diversity,\u201d the concept encompasses not only traditional male and female identities but also \u201ctrans identity, intersexuality, or nonbinary identity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Students in upper secondary school will learn about \u201clegal regulations regarding the personal status \u2018diverse\u2019 as well as transition.\u201d<\/p>\n

As to why these changes are being pushed, Christopher Haep, head of the archdiocese\u2019s education department, \u8ff0\u3079\u307e\u3057\u305f<\/a> that \u201cperspectives and value systems have changed in recent decades \u2014 and therefore we must also be able to provide contemporary answers to children and young people\u2019s questions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u8056\u66f8\u306f \u7269\u8b70\u3092\u91b8\u3057\u3066\u3044\u308b <\/a>German Synodal Way has also promoted gender theory: Delegates in 2023 overwhelmingly voted for a change in Church practices based on transgender ideology.<\/a><\/p>\n

Alumni articulate ardent opposition<\/h2>\n

Former students of the Catholic Sophie-Barat-Schule mounted immediate resistance to the proposal, addressing an open letter to responsible officials shortly after the framework\u2019s announcement. The alumni argued that the concept stands \u201cin considerable contradiction to the binding sexual teaching of the Catholic Church.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their criticism particularly targets the framework\u2019s demand for \u201cacceptance \u2014 not just tolerance \u2014 of all sexual orientations and family constellations,\u201d which they argue fundamentally contradicts the Church\u2019s teaching that marriage between a man and a woman represents the only legitimate form of lived sexuality.<\/p>\n

The critics also expressed concern<\/a> about passages describing early childhood sexual experiences, calling such characterizations \u201chighly offensive.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Hamburg document contrasts with recent Vatican pronouncements on the topic. Pope Francis repeatedly \u975e\u96e3\u3055\u308c\u305f<\/a> gender ideology, calling it \u201cthe ugliest danger<\/a>\u201d of our time in March 2024.<\/p>\n

Gender ideology, which seeks to blur differences between men and women through movements such as transgenderism, \u201cmakes everything the same,\u201d the pontiff said.<\/p>\n

In April 2024, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith issued \u300eDignitas Infinita\uff08\u7121\u9650\u306e\u5c0a\u53b3\uff09\u300f<\/em>, which condemned gender theory and emphasized that attempts to \u201cobscure reference to the ineliminable sexual difference between man and woman are to be rejected.\u201d<\/p>\n

The document stressed that human life, in all its aspects, is a gift from God and should be accepted with gratitude.<\/p>\n

In February, the Vatican\u2019s doctrine chief delivered a pointed critique of gender ideology <\/a>at a theological conference in Germany.<\/p>\n
