Maybe it brings to mind thoughts of a future that\u2019s already set in stone, or a God who\u2019s made up His mind about everything, with no space left for our own choices. But I\u2019m here to tell you, the Catholic Church\u2019s understanding of predestination is designed to fill you with peace, comfort, and a powerful sense of hope! It\u2019s not about a script that takes away your freedom about God\u2019s incredible, boundless love and His amazing plan for every single one of us to share in His everlasting joy.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s so natural to have questions. You might be thinking, \"If God already knows everything, do my choices really make a difference?\" or \"Am I one of the 'chosen' ones?\" 1 These are good, honest questions that get to the heart of our walk with God. And the good news is, the Catholic faith offers answers that are both reassuring and empowering. It beautifully holds together the truth of God\u2019s perfect plan and the precious gift of our freedom. The Church even calls predestination a \u201chidden mystery,\u201d not to scare us to invite us to trust in a God whose wisdom is far greater than we can imagine.\u00b3 By recognizing that God\u2019s ways are higher than our ways, the Church gently leads us away from worry and into a confident trust in His goodness and His deep desire for everyone to be saved.<\/p>\n<p>\u305d\u308c\u3067\u306f\u3001\u4e88\u5b9a\u8aac\u306b\u95a2\u3059\u308b\u3053\u308c\u3089\u306e\u4e00\u822c\u7684\u306a\u7591\u554f\u3092\u63a2\u6c42\u3057\u3001\u305d\u308c\u304c\u672c\u5f53\u306b\u4f55\u3092\u610f\u5473\u3059\u308b\u306e\u304b\u3001\u305d\u3057\u3066\u3053\u306e\u6559\u3048\u304c\u3042\u306a\u305f\u306e\u4fe1\u4ef0\u751f\u6d3b\u3092\u3069\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306b\u795d\u798f\u3067\u304d\u308b\u304b\u3092\u767a\u898b\u3057\u3066\u3044\u304d\u307e\u3057\u3087\u3046\u3002<\/p>\n<h2>\u30ab\u30c8\u30ea\u30c3\u30af\u306b\u3068\u3063\u3066\u306e\u300c\u4e88\u5b9a\u8aac\u300d\u306e\u6838\u5fc3\u3068\u306f\u4f55\u304b\uff1f<\/h2>\n<p>When Christians talk about predestination, they\u2019re generally speaking about God\u2019s eternal plan to save those He loves.\u2074 It\u2019s about seeing God\u2019s hand at work throughout all of history, guiding everything towards the salvation of His \"elect\".\u2075<\/p>\n<p>\u30ab\u30c8\u30ea\u30c3\u30af\u306e\u7406\u89e3\u306f\u3001\u3053\u308c\u306b\u795e\u306e <em>\u611b<\/em>. For us, predestination is God\u2019s loving, eternal dream to bring every single person to a place of everlasting happiness with Him. It\u2019s not some fixed program that makes your choices unimportant. No, it\u2019s about God\u2019s divine knowing and His generous provision of all the help\u2014His grace\u2014that we need for salvation. And He invites us to freely say \"Yes!\" to that help. At its core, predestination is a beautiful expression of God\u2019s immense love and His desire for us to become His beloved adopted children.\u2076 As the Catholic Encyclopedia shares, while predestination can refer to God\u2019s plan for all events, when we talk about salvation, it\u2019s about \"those blessings which lie in the supernatural sphere, as sanctifying grace\".\u00b3 The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) says it so wonderfully: \"He destined us in love to be his sons\" 6, and \"Because God is love, he predestines out of love and predestination is a grace\".\u2077<\/p>\n<p>\u3053\u308c\u306f\u795e\u304c\u30e9\u30f3\u30c0\u30e0\u306b\u6c7a\u5b9a\u3092\u4e0b\u3059\u3068\u3044\u3046\u3053\u3068\u3067\u306f\u3042\u308a\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3002\u305d\u308c\u306f\u3001\u795e\u304c\u9020\u3089\u308c\u305f\u3059\u3079\u3066\u306e\u3082\u306e\u306b\u5bfe\u3059\u308b\u795e\u306e\u611b\u306b\u6e80\u3061\u305f\u914d\u616e\u3068\u5c0e\u304d\u3001\u3059\u306a\u308f\u3061\u795e\u306e\u6442\u7406\u306e\u4e0d\u53ef\u6b20\u306a\u4e00\u90e8\u3067\u3059\u3002\u00b3 \u4e88\u5b9a\u8aac\u3068\u306f\u3001\u5177\u4f53\u7684\u306b\u306f\u795e\u306e\u6442\u7406\u304c\u79c1\u305f\u3061\u306e\u6551\u3044\u306e\u305f\u3081\u306b\u3069\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306b\u50cd\u304f\u304b\u3068\u3044\u3046\u3053\u3068\u3067\u3042\u308a\u3001\u79c1\u305f\u3061\u306e\u7a76\u6975\u306e\u5584\u3067\u3042\u308b\u6c38\u9060\u306e\u547d\u3078\u3068\u79c1\u305f\u3061\u3092\u5c0e\u304f\u3082\u306e\u3067\u3059\u3002\u2079 \u79c1\u305f\u3061\u306e\u81ea\u7531\u3092\u5e38\u306b\u5c0a\u91cd\u3057\u306a\u304c\u3089\u624b\u6bb5\uff08\u795e\u306e\u6075\u307f\uff09\u3092\u4e0e\u3048\u3066\u304f\u3060\u3055\u308b\u3053\u3068\u3067\u3001\u795e\u306e\u4e88\u5b9a\u306e\u8a08\u753b\u306f\u771f\u306b\u4fe1\u3058\u3089\u308c\u306a\u3044\u307b\u3069\u306e\u611b\u306e\u884c\u70ba\u3068\u306a\u3063\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u3055\u3089\u306b\u660e\u78ba\u306b\u3059\u308b\u305f\u3081\u306b\u3001\u30ab\u30c8\u30ea\u30c3\u30af\u306e\u6559\u3048\u3067\u306f\u3001\u3057\u3070\u3057\u3070 <em>\u6075\u307f<\/em> \u3078\u306e\u4e88\u5b9a\u3068 <em>\u6804\u5149<\/em>. Grace is the help God gives us in this life to choose what\u2019s good, to grow closer to Him, and to answer His call. Glory is that eternal life in Heaven. God offers His grace to everyone, inviting us to partner with it. And our free partnership with His grace is part of His plan for us to reach that glory.\u00b3 This shows that God\u2019s first gift of grace doesn\u2019t automatically mean salvation without our ongoing, free \"Yes!\" to Him.<\/p>\n<h2>\u8056\u66f8\u306f\u4e88\u5b9a\u8aac\u306b\u3064\u3044\u3066\u8a9e\u3063\u3066\u3044\u308b\u304b\uff1f\u30ab\u30c8\u30ea\u30c3\u30af\u306f\u3069\u306e\u8056\u53e5\u3092\u91cd\u8996\u3059\u308b\u306e\u304b\uff1f<\/h2>\n<p>\u3082\u3061\u308d\u3093\u3067\u3059\uff01\u4e88\u5b9a\u8aac\u306e\u8003\u3048\u65b9\u306f\u65b0\u7d04\u8056\u66f8\u306e\u4e2d\u306b\u3042\u308a\u3001\u6559\u4f1a\u306e\u6559\u3048\u306f\u3053\u308c\u3089\u306e\u8056\u66f8\u7684\u306a\u771f\u7406\u306e\u4e0a\u306b\u3057\u3063\u304b\u308a\u3068\u7bc9\u304b\u308c\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002\u00b9\u2070 \u7279\u306b\u4f7f\u5f92\u30d1\u30a6\u30ed\u306f\u3001\u795e\u306e\u795e\u8056\u306a\u8a08\u753b\u306b\u3064\u3044\u3066\u591a\u304f\u306e\u5149\u3092\u5f53\u3066\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u975e\u5e38\u306b\u91cd\u8981\u306a\u8056\u53e5\u306f <strong>\u30ed\u30fc\u30de\u306e\u4fe1\u5f92\u3078\u306e\u624b\u7d19 8\u7ae029-30\u7bc0<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>\"For those whom he <a href=\"\">\u795e<\/a> foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified.\" 4<\/p>\n<p>When Catholics read \"foreknew\" here, it\u2019s not just about God having a heads-up about future events. In the Bible, \"to know\" often means a deep, personal, loving choice\u2014like God setting His special attention on someone from the very beginning.\u00b9\u00b9 So, \"those whom He foreknew\" can mean \"those He lovingly chose and set His gaze upon from eternity.\" This means God\u2019s loving choice is what <em>\u53ef\u80fd\u306b\u3059\u308b<\/em> \u306e\u3067\u3042\u308a\u3001\u795e\u306e\u4e88\u5b9a\u304c\u5358\u306b\u795e\u304c\u53d7\u52d5\u7684\u306b\u89b3\u5bdf\u3057\u305f\u3053\u3068\u3078\u306e\u53cd\u5fdc\u3067\u306f\u306a\u3044\u3053\u3068\u3092\u610f\u5473\u3057\u307e\u3059\u3002\u3053\u306e\u8056\u53e5\u306f\u3001\u7f8e\u3057\u3044\u795e\u8056\u306a\u6d41\u308c\u3092\u793a\u3057\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002\u795e\u306e\u3042\u3089\u304b\u3058\u3081\u77e5\u308b\u611b\u304c\u795e\u306e\u4e88\u5b9a\u306e\u8a08\u753b\u3078\u3068\u5c0e\u304d\u3001\u305d\u308c\u304c\u795e\u304c\u79c1\u305f\u3061\u3092\u4fe1\u4ef0\u3078\u3068\u53ec\u3057\u3001\u6075\u307f\u3092\u901a\u3058\u3066\u79c1\u305f\u3061\u3092\u7fa9\u3068\u3057\uff08\u7fa9\u8a8d\uff09\u3001\u6700\u7d42\u7684\u306b\u5929\u56fd\u3067\u306e\u6804\u5149\u3078\u3068\u5c0e\u304f\u4e2d\u3067\u5c55\u958b\u3055\u308c\u3066\u3044\u304f\u306e\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u3082\u3046\u4e00\u3064\u306e\u529b\u5f37\u3044\u8056\u53e5\u306e\u30bb\u30c3\u30c8\u306f\u3001 <strong>\u30a8\u30d5\u30a7\u30bd\u306e\u4fe1\u5f92\u3078\u306e\u624b\u7d19 1\u7ae04-5\u7bc0\u300111\u7bc0<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>\"He chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will\u2026 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will.\" 5<\/p>\n<p>Wow! These words really highlight God\u2019s loving first step. He chose us \"before the foundation of the world,\" not because we earned it simply out of His great love, planning for us to be holy and to become His adopted children through Jesus. This shows just how gracious God\u2019s plan is.<\/p>\n<p>\u8056\u66f8\u306f\u307e\u305f <strong>\"elect\"<\/strong> (from a Greek word meaning \"chosen\").\u00b9\u2070 Theologians often connect this to predestination, seeing the elect as those God has predestined for salvation\u2014a destiny they step into by freely working with His grace.<\/p>\n<p>\u304a\u3088\u3073 <strong>\u4f7f\u5f92\u8a00\u884c\u9332 13\u7ae048\u7bc0<\/strong> gives us another glimpse of this divine and human partnership: \"\u2026and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.\" This verse beautifully shows God\u2019s appointment (\"appointed to eternal life\") and our necessary response (\"believed\") working together in perfect harmony.\u2075<\/p>\n<h2>\u30ab\u30c8\u30ea\u30c3\u30af\u306e\u4e88\u5b9a\u8aac\u306f\u3001\u30ab\u30eb\u30f4\u30a1\u30f3\u4e3b\u7fa9\u306a\u3069\u4ed6\u306e\u6559\u6d3e\u3068\u3069\u3046\u9055\u3046\u306e\u304b\uff1f<\/h2>\n<p>\u30ab\u30c8\u30ea\u30c3\u30af\u306e\u4e88\u5b9a\u8aac\u306e\u7406\u89e3\u304c\u3001\u4ed6\u306e\u30ad\u30ea\u30b9\u30c8\u6559\u306e\u8996\u70b9\u3001\u7279\u306b\u30ab\u30eb\u30f4\u30a1\u30f3\u4e3b\u7fa9\u3068\u6bd4\u8f03\u3059\u308b\u3053\u3068\u3067\u3069\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306b\u969b\u7acb\u3064\u304b\u3092\u898b\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306f\u3001\u3057\u3070\u3057\u3070\u6709\u76ca\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u30ab\u30eb\u30f4\u30a1\u30f3\u4e3b\u7fa9\u306e\u795e\u5b66\u3067\u306f\u3001\u4e88\u5b9a\u8aac\u306b\u306f\u3057\u3070\u3057\u3070\u4ee5\u4e0b\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306a\u8003\u3048\u304c\u542b\u307e\u308c\u307e\u3059\uff1a<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u7121\u6761\u4ef6\u306e\u9078\u3073\uff1a<\/strong> \u795e\u306f\u6c38\u9060\u304b\u3089\u3001\u7279\u5b9a\u306e\u500b\u4eba\u3092\u6551\u3044\u306e\u305f\u3081\u306b\u9078\u3076\u3002\u305d\u308c\u306f\u3001\u795e\u304c\u5f7c\u3089\u306e\u4e2d\u306b\u4e88\u898b\u3057\u305f\u4fe1\u4ef0\u3084\u5584\u884c\u306b\u57fa\u3065\u304f\u306e\u3067\u306f\u306a\u304f\u3001\u795e\u306e\u4e3b\u6a29\u7684\u306a\u610f\u5fd7\u306e\u307f\u306b\u57fa\u3065\u304f\u3002\u00b9\u2070<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u4e8c\u91cd\u4e88\u5b9a\u8aac\uff1a<\/strong> \u3053\u306e\u898b\u89e3\u306f\u3001\u795e\u306f\u4e00\u90e8\u306e\u4eba\u3092\u6551\u3044\u3078\u3068\u4e88\u5b9a\u3059\u308b\u3060\u3051\u3067\u306a\u304f\u3001\u3042\u308b\u8003\u3048\u65b9\u3067\u306f\u3001\u4ed6\u306e\u4eba\u3005\u3092\u7a4d\u6975\u7684\u306b\u6ec5\u3073\u3078\u3068\u4e88\u5b9a\u3059\u308b\u3001\u3042\u308b\u3044\u306f\u5c11\u306a\u304f\u3068\u3082\u5f7c\u3089\u3092\u7121\u8996\u3057\u3001\u5f7c\u3089\u306e\u6ec5\u3073\u3092\u907f\u3051\u3089\u308c\u306a\u3044\u3082\u306e\u306b\u3059\u308b\u3068\u793a\u5506\u3057\u307e\u3059\u3002\u2074<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u4e0d\u53ef\u6297\u529b\u7684\u306a\u6075\u307f\uff1a<\/strong> \u795e\u304c\u9078\u3070\u308c\u305f\u8005\u306b\u4e0e\u3048\u308b\u6075\u307f\u306f\u3001\u6700\u7d42\u7684\u306b\u62d2\u5426\u3059\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306f\u3067\u304d\u305a\u3001\u5e38\u306b\u5f7c\u3089\u3092\u6551\u3044\u3078\u3068\u5c0e\u304f\u3002\u00b9\u2070<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u30ab\u30c8\u30ea\u30c3\u30af\u6559\u4f1a\u306e\u6559\u3048\u306f\u3001\u795e\u306e\u666e\u904d\u7684\u306a\u611b\u3001\u795e\u306e\u6b63\u7fa9\u3001\u305d\u3057\u3066\u79c1\u305f\u3061\u306e\u81ea\u7531\u610f\u5fd7\u306e\u73fe\u5b9f\u3068\u3044\u3046\u7406\u89e3\u306e\u305f\u3081\u306b\u3001\u3044\u304f\u3064\u304b\u306e\u975e\u5e38\u306b\u91cd\u8981\u306a\u70b9\u3067\u5927\u304d\u304f\u7570\u306a\u308a\u307e\u3059\u3002\u30a4\u30a8\u30b9\u304c\u5553\u793a\u3055\u308c\u305f\u611b\u306b\u6e80\u3061\u305f\u7236\u306a\u308b\u795e\u304c\u3001\u305f\u3068\u3048\u5f7c\u3089\u304c\u4f55\u3092\u9078\u307c\u3046\u3068\u3082\u3001\u6700\u521d\u304b\u3089\u6ec5\u307c\u3059\u305f\u3081\u306b\u4eba\u3092\u9020\u308b\u3088\u3046\u306a\u795e\u3067\u3042\u308b\u3068\u306f\u60f3\u50cf\u3057\u304c\u305f\u3044\u3053\u3068\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u30ab\u30c8\u30ea\u30c3\u30af\u306e\u8996\u70b9\u304c\u3069\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306b\u7570\u306a\u308b\u5149\u3092\u3082\u305f\u3089\u3059\u304b\u306f\u4ee5\u4e0b\u306e\u901a\u308a\u3067\u3059\uff1a<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u795e\u306f\u3059\u3079\u3066\u306e\u4eba\u3092\u6551\u3044\u305f\u3044\u3068\u671b\u3093\u3067\u304a\u3089\u308c\u308b\uff1a<\/strong> A core Catholic belief is that God \"desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth\" (1 Timothy 2:4).\u00b9\u2075 Jesus\u2019 sacrifice was for every single person, not just a pre-selected few.\u00b3<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u5730\u7344\u3078\u306e\u4e88\u5b9a\u306f\u306a\u3044\uff1a<\/strong> The Church is crystal clear: \"God predestines no one to go to hell\" (CCC 1037).\u00b9 Damnation is the sad result of a person freely, willfully, and consistently rejecting God\u2019s love and grace, not a destiny God decided.\u00b3<\/li>\n<li><strong>Predestination Includes Our Free \"Yes!\":<\/strong> God\u2019s eternal plan of predestination includes each person\u2019s free response to His grace. The Catechism teaches, \"When therefore he establishes his eternal plan of 'predestination,' he includes in it each person's free response to his grace\" (CCC 600).\u2076 God\u2019s plan doesn\u2019t cancel out our free will.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u3059\u3079\u3066\u306e\u4eba\u306b\u5341\u5206\u306a\u6075\u307f\uff1a<\/strong> The Church teaches that God offers enough grace to every person for salvation. When therefore he establishes his eternal plan of 'predestination,' he includes in it each person's free response to his grace\".\u2076 This means God, in His amazing wisdom, sees our free choices and lovingly weaves them into His divine plan. God, as the author of reality and living outside our straight-line experience of time, has a complete vision that includes our freely made decisions.\u00b2<\/li>\n<li>\u8056\u66f8\u306f <strong>\"door\" analogy<\/strong> is also helpful: \"Before we become a Christian, it is as though we are standing outside a door that has a sign over it saying, 'Whoever wants to come in, can.' But after we go through it, we look back and see a sign over the same door saying, 'Called and chosen by God'\".\u2075 This beautifully shows both sides: our human experience of making a free choice and God\u2019s divine reality of His initiating love and call.<\/li>\n<li>\u7406\u89e3\u3059\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306f <strong>\u795e\u306f\u6642\u9593\u306e\u5916\u306b\u304a\u3089\u308c\u308b<\/strong> is also so important.\u00b9\u2077 God doesn\u2019t experience time like we do, one moment after another. For Him, all moments are an eternal \"now.\" So, His \"foreknowledge\" of our future choices is more like \"knowledge\" of our choices as they happen within His timeless presence. He sees our free \"yes\" or \"no\" without causing it in a way that takes away our freedom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>God gave us free will so we could genuinely love Him. You can\u2019t force love, can you? Our free \"yes\" to God, our willing response to His love, is so precious to Him.\u2076<\/p>\n<h2>\u795e\u306e\u6075\u307f\u306f\u4e88\u5b9a\u8aac\u3068\u79c1\u306e\u6551\u3044\u306b\u3069\u3046\u95a2\u4fc2\u3057\u3066\u3044\u308b\u306e\u304b\uff1f\u3059\u3079\u3066\u306b\u95a2\u4fc2\u3057\u3066\u3044\u308b\uff01<\/h2>\n<p>Grace, is at the very heart of how Catholics understand predestination and salvation. It\u2019s God\u2019s loving, active presence in our lives. The Catechism defines grace as \"favor, the free and undeserved help that God gives us to respond to his call to become children of God, adoptive sons, partakers of the divine nature and of eternal life\" (CCC 1996).\u00b2\u00b2 Salvation is God\u2019s work, made possible by His grace; we can\u2019t achieve it on our own.\u2076<\/p>\n<p>And here\u2019s the beautiful part: God\u2019s grace always takes the first step. Even our very first desire for God, our first thought of turning to Him, or the stirring of repentance in our hearts\u2014that\u2019s God\u2019s grace at work.\u00b2\u00b2 This is sometimes called \"prevenient grace\"\u2014the grace that comes <em>\u3001\u30e8\u30cf\u30cd\u306e\u30bf\u30a4\u30df\u30f3\u30b0\u306b\u3088\u308b\u904e\u8d8a\u796d\u5f53\u65e5<\/em> \u79c1\u305f\u3061\u304c\u610f\u8b58\u7684\u306b\u5fdc\u7b54\u3059\u308b\u524d\u306b\u6765\u308b\u6075\u307f\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n<h4><strong>\u79c1\u305f\u3061\u306e\u5f79\u5272\uff1a\u795e\u306e\u7d20\u6674\u3089\u3057\u3044\u8d08\u308a\u7269\u306b\u5354\u529b\u3059\u308b\u3053\u3068<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>But while God initiates with His grace, He desires our free cooperation. Instead, it\u2019s a \"synergy\"\u2014a beautiful working together\u2014of God\u2019s grace and our human freedom. God\u2019s grace starts it, enables it, and keeps our efforts going, and our human will freely cooperates with that grace. And even that cooperation is made possible by grace! It\u2019s not 50% God and 50% us 100% God\u2019s grace enabling a 100% free (yet graced) human response. Instead, it\u2019s the tragic, self-chosen state of being eternally separated from God. This happens because of a person\u2019s deliberate, free, and ongoing rejection of God\u2019s love, mercy, and grace, right up to the end of their life.\u00b9\u2070 It\u2019s the ultimate result of turning away from God, who is the source of all life and happiness. As many Catholics say, echoing C.S. Augustine taught that our human nature is wounded by sin, and so God\u2019s grace is a completely free gift. At the same time, it allows for some differences in theological opinion on the finer points of how exactly God\u2019s power and our freedom work together, as seen in ongoing discussions between different theological schools like Thomism and Molinism.\u2077 This approach shows the Church values the deep thinking of its Doctors while pastorally protecting against interpretations that could weaken faith, hope, or a right understanding of God\u2019s justice and mercy. The Catechism says, \"To God, all moments of time are present in their immediacy\" (CCC 600).\u00b9\u2077 You can imagine God in an \"eternal now,\" where the whole timeline of history is present to Him at once, kind of like how you might see an entire landscape from a mountaintop.\u00b2\u2070<\/p>\n<h4><strong>God Sees, He Doesn't Force<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Because God sees all of time at once, His \"foreknowledge\" of what we will do in the future is, from His eternal viewpoint, simply \"knowledge.\" He sees what we <em>\u8d77\u3053\u308b<\/em> \u81ea\u7531\u306b\u884c\u3046\u3053\u3068\u3092\u898b\u3066\u304a\u3089\u308c\u307e\u3059\u3002\u305d\u3057\u3066\u3053\u3053\u304c\u9375\u3067\u3059\u3002\u795e\u304c\u305d\u308c\u3092\u77e5\u3063\u3066\u3044\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306f\u3001\u79c1\u305f\u3061\u304c\u305d\u308c\u3092\u884c\u3046 <em>\u539f\u56e0<\/em> us to do it. St. Augustine used a great analogy: \"When you remember past events you do not compel them to have happened, and in the same way God does not compel future events to happen by His foreknowledge of them\".\u00b3\u00b2 Think about it: a historian knowing that Caesar crossed the Rubicon didn\u2019t make Caesar do it. God\u2019s knowledge of our future free actions doesn\u2019t determine them in a way that takes away our freedom.\u00b2<\/p>\n<p>The problem often comes when we try to imagine God experiencing time and learning things the way we do. If God \"learns\" about a future free human action in a way that comes before it and \"locks it in,\" then freedom seems impossible. The concept of God\u2019s \"eternal now\" helps us reframe divine knowledge in a way that doesn\u2019t temporally come before and thereby seemingly pre-determine future free events. What we call \"foreknowledge\" is, for God, simply \"knowledge\" of an event that is, from His timeless perspective, \"present.\" Just like our knowledge of a present free action doesn\u2019t destroy its freedom, God\u2019s knowledge of that same action (which is future to us but present to Him) doesn\u2019t destroy its freedom.<\/p>\n<p>\u60f3\u50cf\u3057\u3066\u307f\u3066\u304f\u3060\u3055\u3044\u3001 <strong>\u6620\u753b\u306e\u30d5\u30a3\u30eb\u30e0<\/strong>. The director or editor who has the whole film can see the first scene, the last scene, and every scene in between, all at once if they lay it out. Trent\u2019s teaching thus encourages a healthy spiritual balance: a deep trust in God\u2019s mercy and promises, a vibrant hope for salvation also a humble recognition of the need for lifelong perseverance in grace and good works. This helps us avoid both spiritual pride and hopeless despair.
