Op 5 oktober vieren katholieken over de hele wereld het feest van de heilige Faustina Kowalska, de Poolse non die de afbeelding van de goddelijke barmhartigheid ontving tijdens openbaringen van Jezus.<\/p>\n

De heilige Faustina werd op 25 augustus 1905 geboren als Helena Kowalska in een arm maar vroom Pools gezin. Op 20-jarige leeftijd, met zeer weinig opleiding en nadat ze door verschillende andere kloosters was afgewezen vanwege haar armoede en gebrek aan opleiding, trad Helena in bij de Congregatie van de Zusters van Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Barmhartigheid. Daar nam ze de naam Faustina aan.<\/p>\n

Jezus verscheen 14 keer aan de heilige Faustina, en bij elk visioen en gesprek dat ze met hem had, legde ze dit vast in haar dagboek, genaamd \u201cGoddelijke Barmhartigheid in mijn ziel\u201d. In haar dagboek schreef ze over de woorden die ze van Jezus ontving en zijn boodschap van goddelijke barmhartigheid voor de wereld, haar eigen lijden en haar spirituele leven.<\/p>\n
