{"id":51985,"date":"2025-06-21T23:58:35","date_gmt":"2025-06-21T23:58:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/christianpure.com\/?p=51985"},"modified":"2025-06-21T23:58:35","modified_gmt":"2025-06-21T23:58:35","slug":"california-catholic-priest-arrested-on-charges-of-child-sex-abuse-dating-to-1990s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianpure.com\/nl\/learn\/california-catholic-priest-arrested-on-charges-of-child-sex-abuse-dating-to-1990s\/","title":{"rendered":"Katholieke priester uit Californi\u00eb gearresteerd op beschuldiging van seksueel misbruik van kinderen uit de jaren 90"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 100%; margin-bottom: 25px;\">\n  <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/images\/fathertheodoregabrielli061825.jpg?ssl=1\" style=\"display: block; margin: auto; max-width: 100%\" \/><br \/>\n  <span style=\"text-align: right; font-style: italic;\">Father Theodore Gabrielli, SJ. \/ Credit: San Luis Obispo County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<p>CNA Staff, Jun 18, 2025 \/ 12:27 pm (CNA).<\/p>\n<p>A priest in California has been arrested and charged with acts of child sex abuse that reportedly occurred through the 1990s.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Police arrested Father Theodore Gabrielli last week on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a minor, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff\u2019s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SLOSheriff\/status\/1935128999409144297\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">said in a post on X on Tuesday<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Authorities identified three alleged male victims of the priest, the sheriff\u2019s office said; all three were members of the same family.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the alleged abuse, \u201cthe family was living in Mexico\u201d where they allegedly befriended Gabrielli.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe priest became close with the family, and he was allowed to take the three boys with him to many places in California including his parents\u2019 residence in Los Osos,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s office said. \u201cIt was there, the victims stated, the priest would sexually assault them.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The alleged assaults \u201ccontinued over the course of about eight years,\u201d reportedly between 1991 and 1999. The victims \u201cdecided to come forward last year and report the abuse,\u201d the statement added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Gabrielli was arrested in Los Osos on June 12.<\/p>\n<p>De <a href=\"https:\/\/lacatholics.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/2023-LA-CATHOLIC-DIRECTORY-W.TABS_.pdf\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">2023 Archdiocese of Los Angeles directory<\/a> listed Gabrielli as residing at the Dolores Mission. <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250601110234\/https:\/\/www.loyolahs.edu\/about\/school-leadership\/\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">As recently as June 1<\/a> he was listed as a member of the Loyola High School Los Angeles board of directors, though his listing had been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loyolahs.edu\/about\/school-leadership\/\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">removed<\/a> as of June 18.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>His name has also apparently been removed from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olgsd.org\/staff-directory\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">the staff directory of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish<\/a> in San Diego.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Archdiocese of Los Angeles did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Gabrielli\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/264823\/california-catholic-priest-arrested-on-charges-of-child-sex-abuse-dating-to-1990s\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/264823\/california-catholic-priest-arrested-on-charges-of-child-sex-abuse-dating-to-1990s<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Father Theodore Gabrielli, SJ. \/ Credit: San Luis Obispo County Sheriff\u2019s Office CNA Staff, Jun 18, 2025 \/ 12:27 pm (CNA).
