Hij stelt dat het \u201cnog niet te laat\u201d is om \u201cde geest weer in de fles te krijgen\u201d en de ergste gevolgen van de nieuwe technologie te voorkomen.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Paus Leo XIV heeft al<a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/264921\/pope-leo-xiv-on-ai-all-of-us-are-concerned-for-children-and-young-people\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"> gewaarschuwd dat AI negatieve effecten kan hebben<\/a> op de ontwikkeling van jongeren en kan bijdragen aan een \u201cverlies van het menselijk besef.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHij nam de naam Leo XIV aan om zich te verbinden met Leo XIII, die zelf te maken had met de industri\u00eble revolutie van de late negentiende eeuw, die de cultuur volledig transformeerde,\u201d vertelde moraaltheoloog Charles Camosy, hoogleraar bio-ethiek aan de Catholic University of America en een veelgeprezen auteur, op 15 augustus aan Catherine Hadro, presentatrice van \u201cEWTN News In-Depth\u201d.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width:100%\" class=\"mx-auto embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0jchz77vJ48?feature=oembed\" class=\"embed-responsive-item\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe ondergaan op dit moment een soortgelijke technologische verandering die de cultuur volledig zal transformeren,\u201d zei Camosy. \u201cHoe reageren we daarop?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Camosy schreef onlangs een artikel voor<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2025\/06\/pope-leo-xiv-artificial-intelligence\/683237\/\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"> the Atlantic<\/a> waarin hij betoogde dat het aanpakken van kunstmatige intelligentie \u201cwel eens het meest ambitieuze en blijvende project van het nalatenschap van paus Leo XIV zou kunnen zijn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AI zal \u201cbijna elk onderdeel van onze cultuur be\u00efnvloeden,\u201d merkte Camosy op, eraan toevoegend dat \u201cmensen vaak het verschil niet kunnen zien wanneer ze met een mens of een chatbot praten.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoor zover we daar enige verwarring over hebben, is dat echt super zorgwekkend, omdat we vast moeten houden aan het idee dat we fundamenteel verschillen van een groot taalmodel,\u201d zei hij.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWij zijn van vlees en bloed, geschapen naar het beeld en de gelijkenis van God, met een ziel die een relatie weerspiegelt die onmogelijk aanwezig kan zijn in een chatbot.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Met een aanhoudende <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gse.harvard.edu\/ideas\/usable-knowledge\/24\/10\/what-causing-our-epidemic-loneliness-and-how-can-we-fix-it\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">loneliness epidemic<\/a>, zijn mensen al kwetsbaar, merkte hij op.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Camosy merkte op dat als individuen in een wereld leven waarin ze, \u201cverslaafd aan hun smartphones,\u201d niet in staat zijn om authentiek te communiceren en vrienden missen die oprecht kunnen reageren, ze \u201ckwetsbaar kunnen worden voor een zeer welbespraakte chatbot.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hij zei dat AI-chatbots niet alleen \u201cinspringen om de leegte op te vullen, maar dit doen op manieren die op zijn minst de behoefte imiteren die we allemaal hebben aan intimiteit, aan iemand die om ons geeft.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Het is iets waar de Kerk zich al enige tijd mee bezighoudt via werkgroepen over AI, merkte Camosy op.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJe zou kunnen stellen dat de Kerk de bredere cultuur op het gebied van AI voor is geweest, omdat deze groepen al enkele jaren bestaan,\u201d zei hij.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Camosy verwees naar het Vaticaanse document <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/roman_curia\/congregations\/cfaith\/documents\/rc_ddf_doc_20250128_antiqua-et-nova_en.html\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Antiqua et Nova: Nota over de relatie tussen kunstmatige intelligentie en menselijke intelligentie<\/a> als een katholieke bron over AI.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIk vermoed, maar weet het niet zeker, dat onze huidige Heilige Vader op zijn minst in de beginfase zit om zoiets samen te stellen,\u201d vervolgde hij.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHet is niet alleen AI,\u201d zei hij, waarbij hij opmerkte dat de AI-discussie verband houdt met de \u201ckomst van <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/257215\/what-is-transhumanism-and-what-are-its-ethical-challenges-a-catholic-philosopher-responds\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">transhumanism<\/a>.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Transhumanisme is een wetenschappelijke en culturele beweging die de wijziging van de menselijke biologie door middel van technologie voorstelt, potentieel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/257215\/what-is-transhumanism-and-what-are-its-ethical-challenges-a-catholic-philosopher-responds\" target=\"null\" class=\"null\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">de grenzen tussen het kunstmatige en het re\u00eble doen vervagen.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe bevinden ons op een heel belangrijk cultureel moment waarop deze tweede industri\u00eble revolutie op het punt staat te gebeuren. Maar werk, zo merkte hij op, is \u201ceen integraal onderdeel van de menselijke ervaring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hebben bescherming nodig voor werk.
