Bisschop Michael Duca heeft in het bisdom Baton Rouge dispensatie verleend van de zondagsmis voor immigranten die vrezen voor deportatie; het is het vierde Amerikaanse bisdom dat dit doet.<\/p>\n

Het nieuws over de dispensatie komt te midden van een verhoogde aanwezigheid van Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)-agenten in Louisiana als onderdeel van de \u201cSwamp Sweep\u201d van de regering-Trump, die naar verluidt<\/a> de inzet van 250 grenswachten in de regio omvat en plannen om 5.000 personen in Louisiana en Mississippi te arresteren.<\/p>\n

\u201cMet de recente bekendgemaakte komst van Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)-agenten naar Zuid-Louisiana en Groot-Baton Rouge, en aangezien veel gelovigen oprecht vrezen voor immigratiehandhavingsacties, waardoor het voor hen onhoudbaar is om op zondagen en verplichte feestdagen de mis bij te wonen, verleen ik hierbij dispensatie van de verplichting om de mis bij te wonen voor die katholieken die terecht bang zijn om deel te nemen aan de mis vanwege hun angst,\u201d zei Duca \u201cmet pijn in het hart\u201d in een herderlijke brief<\/a> gedateerd 4 december.<\/p>\n

De bisschop van Baton Rouge zei dat de dispensatie van kracht zou blijven \u201ctotdat de individuele katholiek bepaalt dat het weer veilig is om de mis bij te wonen\u201d of totdat de dispensatie wordt ingetrokken. <\/p>\n

Duca instrueerde de gelovigen die ervoor kozen om thuis te blijven in overeenstemming met de dispensatie, om op zondag als gezin samen te komen voor gebed. \u201cHet lezen van de dagelijkse mislezingen, het bidden van de rozenkrans of het bidden van een noveen voor bescherming door voorspraak zijn allemaal geschikte alternatieve spirituele praktijken voor degenen die deze dispensatie aanvaarden,\u201d zei hij. <\/p>\n

Duca sluit zich aan bij bisschoppen<\/a> in de bisdommen San Bernardino, Californi\u00eb; Nashville, Tennessee; en Charlotte, North Carolina<\/a>, bij het verlenen van een dergelijke dispensatie in 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cNationale veiligheid en de bescherming van de menselijke waardigheid zijn niet onverenigbaar,\u201d vervolgde Duca in zijn brief, waarin hij opriep tot \u201ceen rechtvaardige oplossing voor deze moeilijke situatie in ons land.\u201d Hij merkte op dat deportatie-inspanningen niet alleen de katholieke Spaanstalige gemeenschap hebben getroffen, maar ook vluchtelingen en immigranten van alle gezindten. \u201cDit zijn onze buren, collega's en parochianen,\u201d zei hij.<\/p>\n

De bisschop concludeerde: \u201cLaten we voor nu bidden voor degenen die direct getroffen zijn, vooral tijdens deze adventstijd \u2014 een tijd waarin we de vreugde van Kerstmis zouden moeten verwachten, omringd door onze familie in viering in plaats van de ervaring van angst en vrees.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMogen degenen die lijden door onze gebeden en daden weten dat Jezus' woorden persoonlijk tot ieder van hen gericht zijn,\u201d zei hij.<\/p>\n
