Paus Leo XIV en de oprichter van de Sant\u2019Egidio-gemeenschap, Andrea Riccardi, ontmoetten elkaar deze week in het Vaticaan en bespraken de rol die christenen en de Kerk geroepen zijn te spelen bij het bevorderen van vrede te midden van diverse conflicten over de hele wereld.<\/p>\n

According to a verklaring<\/a>, de ontmoeting op 5 februari vond plaats aan de vooravond van de 58e verjaardag van de kerkelijke gemeenschap, die in Rome werd opgericht en zich al decennia inzet voor vrede, dialoog en zorg voor de armsten.<\/p>\n

In het bijzonder werd de waarde van de oecumenische en interreligieuze dialoog benadrukt als een fundamentele hulpbron, bevorderd door de zogenaamde \u201cgeest van Assisi\u201d: de beweging van interreligieuze dialoog en gezamenlijk gebed voor wereldvrede, op 27 oktober 1986 in die Italiaanse stad ge\u00efnitieerd door paus Johannes Paulus II om het gebruik van geweld in naam van religie af te wijzen en ontmoeting, verzoening en vreedzame co\u00ebxistentie tussen volkeren te bevorderen.<\/p>\n

De Sant\u2019Egidio-gemeenschap<\/a> is een katholieke lekenbeweging die in 1968 door Riccardi in Rome werd opgericht en zich richt op gebed, solidariteit met de armen (vooral daklozen en ouderen) en vrede, en die in meer dan 70 landen actief is.<\/p>\n
