Paus Leo XIV zal in 2026 niet naar de Verenigde Staten reizen, zei de directeur van de Persdienst van de Heilige Stoel, Matteo Brunn, zondag, waarmee hij de geruchten ontkende dat de paus een apostolische reis naar zijn geboorteland zou maken.<\/p>\n

Een bezoek aan de VS werd door sommige Amerikaanse katholieken verwacht in de aanloop naar de 250e verjaardag van de onafhankelijkheid van het land op 4 juli 2026.<\/p>\n

Tegelijkertijd krijgt pauselijke reizen elders vorm. Lokale kerkelijke autoriteiten in Afrika hebben gezegd dat Leo verschillende landen op het continent zal bezoeken \u2014 waarbij Angola en Equatoriaal-Guinea tot de bestemmingen behoren die publiekelijk door lokale autoriteiten zijn bevestigd, en Kameroen ook algemeen wordt verwacht als onderdeel van de reisroute \u2014 waarbij de timing in grote lijnen wordt omschreven als na Pasen.<\/p>\n

In Zuid-Amerika hebben Peruaanse bisschoppen gezegd dat de paus het land zal bezoeken \u2014 waar hij voorheen als bisschop diende \u2014 later dit jaar, waarbij lokale kerkleiders wijzen op een tijdsbestek in november of begin december.<\/p>\n
