De vaste commissie van de Spaanse Bisschoppenconferentie (CEE, naar het Spaanse acroniem) heeft de oprichting goedgekeurd van een afdeling voor betrekkingen met de islam, bedoeld om in te spelen op de groei van de moslimbevolking in het land.<\/p>\n

Dit nieuwe orgaan maakt deel uit van de Subcommissie voor Interconfessionele Betrekkingen en Interreligieuze Dialoog van de Bisschoppen, voorgezeten door de hulpbisschop van Sevilla, Ram\u00f3n Dar\u00edo Valdivia.<\/p>\n

De woordvoerder van de CEE, bisschop Francisco C\u00e9sar Garc\u00eda Mag\u00e1n, verklaarde aan de media dat de missie van de nieuwe afdeling is \"om te reageren op de pastorale uitdagingen die de groeiende aanwezigheid van moslimgelovigen in Spanje met zich meebrengt.\"<\/p>\n

Onder deze uitdagingen vallen het ondersteunen van echtgenoten in gemengde huwelijken en het trainen van priesters, seminaristen en leken voor relevante dialoog. Garc\u00eda merkte op dat de bisschoppen zich \"bewust zijn van de behoefte aan getraind personeel op dit gebied\" en dat priesters voor dit doel zijn opgeleid aan het Pauselijk Instituut voor Arabische en Islamitische Studies in Rome.<\/p>\n

De afdeling voor dialoog met de moslimwereld zal ook catechetisch materiaal ontwikkelen voor bekeerlingen tot het christendom vanuit de islam en zal proberen \"de versterking van institutionele betrekkingen met islamitische groeperingen\" te bevorderen.<\/p>\n

Dit type organisatie is niet nieuw in Europa. Zoals Mag\u00e1n opmerkte, hebben de bisschoppenconferenties van Frankrijk en Itali\u00eb ook dergelijke structuren en hebben zij een aanzienlijke hoeveelheid leerstellig werk geproduceerd.<\/p>\n

2,5 miljoen moslims in Spanje<\/h2>\n

De Unie van Islamitische Gemeenschappen van Spanje (UCIDE, naar het Spaanse acroniem) schat in haar jaarverslag van 2024 dat er ongeveer 2,5 miljoen moslims in het land wonen, wat neerkomt op ongeveer 5% van de bevolking.<\/p>\n

Volgens dezelfde bron is de meerderheid van de moslims Spaans staatsburger, hetzij door geboorte of naturalisatie (ongeveer 600.000 genaturaliseerd in 56 jaar), gevolgd door Marokkanen, Pakistanen, Senegalezen en Algerijnen. De gemeenten met de grootste moslimbevolking zijn Barcelona, Ceuta, Madrid en Melilla, gevolgd door El Ejido (Almer\u00eda) en Murcia. Ceuta en Melilla zijn Spaanse autonome steden aan de Marokkaanse kust in Noord-Afrika.<\/p>\n

Deze aanwezigheid heeft er ook toe geleid dat elk jaar een toenemend aantal studenten de islamitische religie bestudeert, meer dan 390.000 sinds het curriculum voor het vak in 1996 werd gepubliceerd. Dit programma heeft meer dan 300 docenten, van wie meer dan een derde is gevestigd in Andalusi\u00eb, het meest zuidelijke gebied van het Spaanse vasteland.<\/p>\n

Spaanse scholen zijn wettelijk verplicht om godsdienstonderwijs aan te bieden, hoewel het voor de leerling optioneel is om de les te volgen. <\/p>\n

De islamitische gemeenschap van het land omvat ook een militaire imam (vergelijkbaar met een aalmoezenier) die geestelijke bijstand verleent aan gevangenen in de militaire gevangenis in Madrid; vijf imams die hulp bieden in ziekenhuizen en detentiecentra voor buitenlanders en minderjarigen; en 11 gevangenis-imams die dienen in gevangenissen in Cataloni\u00eb, Madrid en Valencia, de Canarische Eilanden, Ceuta, Melilla en Baskenland.<\/p>\n
