Als kind ging ze naar de moskee en las ze de Koran in het Arabisch, maar ze zegt dat ze het niet begreep. Na in haar jeugd boeken over materialistische filosofie te hebben gelezen, werd ze op 15-jarige leeftijd athe\u00efst.<\/p>\n<p>Belk\u0131z (wiens achternaam om privacyredenen wordt achtergehouden) vertelde aan ACI Mena, de Arabischtalige nieuwspartner van CNA, dat ze na haar afstuderen aan de universiteit literatuurdocent werd en constant boeken las. Toen ze 28 jaar oud was, las ze het boek \u201cDit is religie\u201d van Turan Dursun. (Dursun, een voormalig sjiitisch moslim en geleerde die athe\u00efst werd, werd vermoord vanwege wat hij schreef over de islam en religie.<em> <\/em>Zijn boek<em> <\/em>bekritiseert religieuze boeken \u2014 voornamelijk de Koran.)<\/p>\n<p>Belk\u0131z kon niet geloven wat ze las, dus kocht ze een Turkse Koran en las die. De Bijbel was de volgende \u2014 ze kocht er een op de boekenbeurs van Izmir en werd uitgenodigd om in een protestantse kerk naar een film over het leven van Jezus te kijken, gebaseerd op het Evangelie van Lucas.<\/p>\n<p>Het kijken naar de film veranderde haar manier van denken over God volledig. Het bijbelverhaal dat haar het meest raakte, was het gebed van de tollenaar en de farizee\u00ebr in de tempel. Hier zag ze haar eigen zonde. Omdat ze, net als de farizee\u00ebr, zo overtuigd was van haar eigen rechtvaardigheid, ervoer ze haar eerste schaamte voor God.<em> <\/em>\u201cHeb je vijanden lief\u201d<em> <\/em>werd haar leidraad. Aan het einde van de film bad Belk\u0131z met heel haar hart: \u201cHeer, kom alstublieft in mijn leven, ik leg mijn leven in uw handen, doe met mij wat U wilt!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daarna ging ze elke zondag naar de protestantse kerk, las ze regelmatig in de Bijbel en woonde ze altijd gebedsbijeenkomsten bij. Ze werd gedoopt en leefde gelukkig in een levende relatie met God.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Toen zag ze op een zondag tijdens een kerkdienst in 2005 hoe een jongere die brood en wijn nam aan de tafel van de Heer, het brood pakte, de korst in zijn mond stak en de binnenkant van het brood in zijn handpalm kneep. Toen Belk\u0131z dit zag, voelde ze zich ongemakkelijk omdat ze het gevoel had dat het lichaam van de Heer was gekwetst. Ze sprak erover met een protestantse vriend. Ik heb mijn beste vriend en mijn mooiste geliefde gevonden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toen haar werd gevraagd of ze bang was voor vervolging als christen, glimlachte ze: \u201cToen Jezus werd verraden, verloochende zijn discipel Petrus Jezus drie keer. Omdat hij bang was. Maar dezelfde Petrus verspreidde na ontvangst van de Heilige Geest het Evangelie van Jeruzalem tot Itali\u00eb en toen hij gekruisigd zou worden, zei hij: \u2018Ik ben het niet waard om te sterven, Heer,\u2019 en werd [ondersteboven] gekruisigd.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Belk\u0131z zei ook dat wat ze heeft gewonnen op haar geloofsreis precies in de Bijbel staat: \u201cLiefde, vreugde, vrede, geduld, vriendelijkheid, goedheid, trouw, zachtmoedigheid en zelfbeheersing\u201d (Gal 5:22-23).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGod biedt ons allemaal een schat aan.
