In Exodus 20 the first command God gives is &quot;You shall have no other gods before me&quot; (Exodus 20:3), and when Jesus was asked for the greatest commandment he answered with Deuteronomy 6:5 and called it &quot;the first and greatest commandment&quot; (Matthew 22:37-38).
