God doesn’t promise a life without mourning, but He does promise to be with us in it and to provide a comfort that the world cannot. Matthew 5:4 promises, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Cling to that promise.

God knows our limits and meets us where we are. He doesn’t expect us to be strong on our own. He invites us to rely on His infinite power. Isaiah 40:29 promises, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”

This divine peace is a gift from God. It isn’t the absence of trouble, but the presence of God in the midst of it. Philippians 4:7 promises, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Prayer Focused on the Promise of Heaven
For the Christian, death is not the end. This prayer helps to lift our eyes from the pain of the “goodbye” on earth to the hope of the “hello” in heaven, focusing on the promise of eternal life.

Our grief is real, but so is our hope. The Bible gives us a beautiful and comforting vision of what awaits those who are in Christ. Revelation 21:4 says, “‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Prayer for the Grace to Comfort Others
Often, we are not the only ones grieving a loss. This prayer asks God for the strength to be a source of comfort to others, even while we are navigating our own deep pain and sorrow.
Father of Mercies,
In the middle of my own pain, it is hard to think of anyone else. My grief consumes me. But I know that others are hurting, too. Lord, please give me the grace to look beyond my own sorrow and be a source of comfort to the people around me who are also grieving.

Let us carry one another’s burdens and, in this way, fulfill the law of Christ. Don’t let me become isolated in my grief, but help me to be a part of a community of healing. Use our shared loss to bind us closer to one another and closer to You, I pray In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
God can use our deepest hurts to minister to others. He comforts us so that we can then offer that same comfort to those around us. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 says, “He comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
