A mob of Hindu nationalists in central India attacked a Christian family after the family refused to deny Christ.

The incident occurred on Feb. 26 in the village of Erramangi in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. The family lost their home and their belongings during the attack, forcing them to live on the streets.

According to a local source, nearly 200 radical Hindus surrounded the house and attempted to force Ram Sai’s family to deny Jesus and reconvert to Hinduism. The furious mob burst into the home, threw the family’s food and belongings into the street, and tore down the house. Despite the destruction, the family chose to remain in Christ.

“We have been harassed and threatened for the last two years,” Ram Sai said. “In the midst of these challenges, we remained steadfast and told the anti-Christian leaders in the village that we would not compromise on our faith.

“Last night, all six children and my wife slept in the rubble with no roof. God gave us courage to come thus far; we hope that God will continue to strengthen us to remain faithful to him.”

Chhattisgarh is becoming an increasingly dangerous place for Christians. While social boycotts are normalized, forcible evictions of Christian families from their homes and villages have shattered the Christian community in the state.

Chhattisgarh state is one of the 12 states that have enacted anti-conversion laws. These laws are increasingly misused to target Christians and harass and attack them.
