The Welcome and the Readings

What do I say first, and which Scriptures do we read?

A welcome that gathers the room and says why everyone is there, then one or two readings chosen with the couple and read by someone who has practised.

A tall brass church lectern whose eagle spreads its wings to hold the book, with candle branches on either side, small statues of saints round the shaft and two lions at its feet.
