Summary
- The New Testament says the blood of Jesus redeems (Ephesians 1:7), cleanses from sin (1 John 1:7), makes peace with God (Colossians 1:20) and gives access to him (Hebrews 10:19).
- Traditional prayers are quoted from the 1888 Catholic Manual of Prayers (the Anima Christi), Lasance’s Catholic Girl’s Guide, the Garden of the Soul, the 1928 Book of Common Prayer and Hapgood’s 1906 Orthodox service book.
- The one-line offering “Eternal Father, I offer Thee the precious blood of Jesus” carried an indulgence from Pope Pius VII in 1817, according to Lasance.
- Seven short prayers cover forgiveness, protection, fear and temptation, healing, making peace, Communion and the morning.
- “Pleading the blood” does not occur in the King James Bible; those who pray this way draw on Exodus 12, Revelation 12:11 and Hebrews 12:24.
