Dutch Prayer for a Pure Heart
Before we come to the Lord’s Table, it’s wise to look inside our own hearts. This prayer is a humble request for God to forgive our sins and cleanse us, so we can receive this holy gift with reverence and joy.

How can it be that this simple bread and wine can connect me so deeply to Your divine sacrifice? How can this act, repeated for two thousand years, still hold so much power to change a human heart? It is a miracle of grace, and I am in awe of You. I don’t need to understand it all to receive it with a grateful and wondering heart.
Thank you for inviting me into this sacred moment. Let my heart be like a child’s, filled with wide-eyed wonder at Your goodness and Your love for me. I don’t take this for granted. Make me whole, Lord, not just for my own sake, but so that I can better serve You and love others, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Communion is a powerful reminder that God is in the business of restoration. He meets us in our weakness. A beautiful promise of this is found in Isaiah 53:5: “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

Pull me back to You, Lord. Rekindle the fire of my first love for You. I don’t want to be a lukewarm follower; I want to be all-in for You. Use my life for Your glory. Here I am, Lord. Send me, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Renewing our commitment is a healthy, vital part of the Christian walk. It keeps our relationship with God fresh and active. It echoes the profound words of Joshua 24:15: “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Prayer for Accepting God’s Grace
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is accept that we are truly forgiven and loved. This prayer is for the person struggling with feelings of unworthiness, asking God for help to fully accept His amazing and unconditional grace.

But Lord, I know this communion is not about my worthiness; it is all about Yours. It’s a gift, not a reward. So today, I pray for the courage to simply accept it. Help me to silence the voice of shame and to listen only to Your voice of love, which calls me forgiven, beloved, and welcome. Help me to truly believe that the blood of Jesus is enough to cover all of my sin.
Let me receive this bread and this cup not with a heavy heart of guilt, but with the joyful, humble heart of a child who knows they are deeply loved by their Father. Thank you for a grace so powerful it overcomes all my doubt and fear, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
God’s grace is a gift we must choose to receive. It’s not based on our performance. This beautiful truth is captured in Romans 5:8: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Prayer for a Focused Mind and Spirit
Our minds can be so busy and distracted, even during a church service. This prayer is a simple request for God to help us quiet the noise, both internal and external, so we can be fully present and focused on Him.
Lord, my mind is often like a busy marketplace, filled with to-do lists, worries, and random thoughts. But in this sacred moment, I want to be fully here with You. I ask that You would help me quiet the noise. Still my restless heart and calm my anxious mind. Help me to set aside my concerns about yesterday and my plans for tomorrow.
I choose to focus my entire being on You right now. As I prepare to take this communion, clear my thoughts so that I can meditate on the meaning of Your sacrifice. Let Your Holy Spirit guard my heart and mind, protecting me from any distraction that would try to pull my attention away from what is truly important.
Let me fix my eyes on You, Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith. In this quiet, focused space, speak to my heart. Let me hear what You want to say to me today. I give You my full attention and my undivided heart, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Being fully present is a gift we give to God and to ourselves. It allows us to truly receive from Him. A great verse to hold onto for this is Colossians 3:2: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
Prayer for Hope in Eternal Life
Communion doesn’t just look back at the cross; it also looks forward to our future with Jesus. This prayer helps us celebrate the hope we have of eternal life and the joy of the great feast that awaits us in heaven.
Jesus, as we share in this meal today, we remember Your promise that You are coming back for us. This bread and this wine are not just a memory of the past, but a foretaste of the future—a glimpse of the great wedding feast of the Lamb that we will one day share with You in heaven. And my heart is filled with so much hope!
Thank you that the cross was not the end of the story. Thank you that the grave is empty! Because you live, I too shall live. This hope sets my heart free from the fear of death and gives me courage to face the trials of this world. It reminds me that all the sadness and pain of this life are temporary, but the joy of being with You is eternal.
As I receive this communion, let it be a powerful reminder of this living hope. Refresh my spirit with the joyful anticipation of a day when there will be no more tears, no more pain, and no more separation, but only perfect fellowship with You, face to face, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
This hope is the anchor for our souls in the storms of life. It gives us an eternal perspective. As 1 Peter 1:3 beautifully states, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
