Prayers for Siblings: For a Brother or Sister, and for Peace Between You



  • Eight prayers for a brother or sister cover protection, sickness, direction, grief, faith, self-worth, distance and thanks.
  • Seven more cover quarrels, a sibling who will not speak to you, respect between brother and sister, jealousy and favoritism, inheritance and parents’ care, being a better sibling, and a sibling who has died.
  • Traditional prayers are quoted from the 1928 Book of Common Prayer (“For Those We Love,” “For the Absent”) and the 1888 Catholic Manual of Prayers (“For the Preservation of Concord”).
  • Scripture’s siblings include Cain and Abel, Jacob and Esau, Joseph and his brothers, Moses praying for Miriam’s healing (Numbers 12:13), Martha and Mary, and Andrew bringing his brother Simon to Jesus.
  • Jesus told his hearers to “first be reconciled to thy brother” before offering a gift (Matthew 5:24).

“Lord, bless my [brother or sister] [name]. Keep [him or her] safe, draw [him or her] close to you, and keep us close to each other. Amen.” Those words fit any sibling, near or far.
