This policy explains what personal information Christian Pure collects when you use christianpure.com, how we use it, who else receives it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information for money. Our advertising partner, Mediavine, does share information for interest-based ads, and the Advertising section explains how to opt out.
Christian Pure is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization at 61 Hamilton Pl, Oakland, CA 94612. This policy covers christianpure.com. The Christian Pure shop and the Halo app for families have their own privacy policies, and our Terms of Service also apply when you use the site.
Information you give us
When you create an account or become a member, we keep your name, your email address, and your password, which we store in a form we cannot read. For members we also keep the membership plan, its status, billing dates, and payment history. If you join our community or take a course, we keep your community profile, what you post, and your course progress.
Stripe collects your card details when you pay for a membership, and your full card number never reaches our site. Stripe sends us a record of each payment, including the amount, date, and status.
Fundraise Up runs our giving page and processes donations. It collects the details you enter there, such as your name, email address, and payment information, and gives us a record of your gift.
When you sign up for our emails, we keep your email address and, if you give it, your first name. Most of our signup forms send these details to Kit, our email service; some send them to the WordPress.com subscription service. When you become a member, we record your membership in Kit so we can send you member emails.
When you send a prayer request, Kit stores your first name, email address, prayer request, and preferred language so that our team can pray for you.
Comments use Jetpack’s comment form, which is run by Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com. When you comment, we collect the name, email address, and website you enter, your comment, and your IP address and browser details. Akismet, an Automattic service, checks comments for spam. To show your profile picture, we may send Gravatar, another Automattic service, a scrambled code made from your email address.
When you write to us through our contact form, we keep your name, email address, and message so we can reply.
Information collected automatically
Jetpack Stats, run by Automattic, counts visits to our pages so we can see which articles readers find useful. It records the pages you view, the page that sent you, your browser, and your IP address.
We use your IP address for up to an hour to limit repeated sign-in and checkout attempts. Jetpack’s security features also use IP addresses to block attacks on the site.
When you use Christian Pure through an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Meta Muse, the assistant sends our connector a few search words, or the link of an article, based on what you asked. The connector uses them to find articles and keeps no record of them or of you. To limit abuse, it counts requests from each IP address for up to two minutes, keeping a scrambled form of the address rather than the address itself. It keeps search results for ten minutes so that repeated searches load faster; those records hold the results, not who asked. WordPress.com, our host, keeps its standard web server logs of these requests, as it does for every visit to the site. What the assistant does with your conversation is covered by its own privacy policy.
Cookies
Cookies are small files that a website asks your browser to store. Christian Pure uses these:
- Sign-in cookies keep you signed in. They last two days, or two weeks if you choose “Remember me”. Members who choose “Remember me” stay signed in for up to a year.
- A member cookie lasts up to a year and records that a member has signed in on this browser. If you are later signed out, it lets us send you to the sign-in page instead of the membership page.
- A reading-limit cookie records which articles you have opened this month so the free-reading limit works. It expires at the start of the next month.
- A security cookie lasts 10 minutes and protects the sign-in and password forms from forged requests.
- During checkout, your browser holds a short-lived checkout code that is cleared when you close the tab.
Jetpack and WordPress.com set their own cookies for comments, statistics, and security, and our advertising partners set cookies as described below. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but if you block sign-in cookies you will not be able to sign in.
Advertising
Mediavine shows ads, through its Journey program, only to readers who are not signed in as members.
Mediavine and its advertising partners use cookies and similar tools, such as pixels and tags, to collect information about your device and your browsing: for example, your IP address, approximate location, browser, operating system, language, and the pages you visit on this and other sites. They use this information to choose which ads to show you and to measure how the ads perform, and Mediavine shares it with advertisers who bid to show you ads. Some US state laws treat this as a sale or sharing of personal information.
You can limit interest-based advertising in these ways:
- In places where the law requires it, such as the EU and UK, Mediavine shows a consent banner where you can refuse advertising cookies, and a link on the site lets you change your choice later.
- In US states that give you the right, use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link that Mediavine shows on the site.
- Turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser.
- Use the opt-out tools from the Digital Advertising Alliance, the Network Advertising Initiative, or, in Europe, Your Online Choices.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Opting out does not remove ads. It means the ads you see are not based on your interests. Mediavine lists its advertising partners on its website, and you can ask Mediavine about the information it collects by writing to privacy@mediavine.com.
How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- run your account and membership, including access, billing, and member benefits such as the community and your shop discount code
- send account and billing emails, such as your welcome email, password links, payment receipts, and notices about failed payments, cancellations, and refunds
- send the newsletters and member emails you signed up for
- pray for the requests you send us
- reply to your messages
- show and moderate comments and community posts, and filter spam
- understand which articles readers find useful
- protect accounts and the site
- show ads to readers who are not members
- keep the payment and donation records that tax and accounting law requires
Who receives your information
We share personal information only with the companies that run parts of the site for us, and when the law requires it:
- Automattic hosts the site through WordPress.com and runs Jetpack, Akismet, and Gravatar, which we use for statistics, comments, email subscriptions, spam filtering, and security.
- Stripe processes membership payments.
- Fundraise Up processes donations.
- Kit sends our emails and stores prayer requests.
- Mediavine and its partners show ads to readers who are not members.
- Shopify runs the Christian Pure shop. The member discount code we create in Shopify does not include your name or email address.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or when it is needed to protect the safety of people or the site.
Approved comments and anything you post in the community are visible to other people. If you upload images, remove location data from them first, because other people can download the images and read it.
How long we keep information
We keep account and membership information while your account is open. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize your information, except the payment and donation records we must keep for tax and accounting purposes.
We keep comments and their details indefinitely so we can recognize and approve your follow-up comments automatically, unless you ask us to remove them. Kit keeps your email address while you are subscribed and, after you unsubscribe, keeps a record of that so we do not email you again. Kit keeps prayer requests until you ask us to delete them. IP addresses used to limit sign-in and checkout attempts expire after an hour, and the reading-limit cookie expires at the start of each month.
Your choices and rights
You can update your profile and cancel a membership in My Account, and you can unsubscribe from any of our emails with the link at the bottom of each one.
You can also ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Send the request through our contact form from the email address on your account; we may need to confirm that the request comes from you. Depending on where you live, including the EU, the UK, and some US states, you may have further rights, such as the right to object to or limit how we use your information and the right to complain to your data protection authority.
To ask Mediavine for a copy of the advertising information it holds about you, or to have that information corrected or deleted, write to privacy@mediavine.com.
Children
Christian Pure is meant for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Where your information is processed
Christian Pure is based in the United States, and our service providers store and process information in the United States and other countries. If you visit from outside the United States, your information is transferred to the United States.
Keeping your information safe
The site uses encrypted connections, stores passwords in a form we cannot read, and never receives your full card number. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong password that you do not use anywhere else.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will tell members by email.
