What does coal symbolize in the Bible? Coal symbolizes purification. We see this beautifully illustrated in the vision of the prophet Isaiah, where a seraph touches his lips with a burning coal from the altar, saying, “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for” (Isaiah 6:7).
