- 433 does not appear in the Bible, but Mark 4:33 is worth the trip: “With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.”
- The teaching came in portions because portions were what could be carried. John 16:12 says the same thing on the last night: “more than you can now bear.”
- Parables do not only simplify. They delay — giving the hearer something to take away and turn over rather than forcing a conclusion on the spot.
- 1 Kings 4:33 records what a king renowned for wisdom actually spoke about: plants, animals, birds, reptiles and fish.
- Chapter divisions came around 1227 and verse numbers in 1551 and 1555. A reference is the Bible’s index, not its content.
