  • Short prayers follow the parts of a church service: the opening, confession, the Bible reading and sermon, the preacher, the offering, prayers for others and the sending out.
  • Paul’s prayers for the Colossians, Ephesians and Philippians (Colossians 1:9–11; Ephesians 3:17–19; Philippians 1:3–6) show what to ask for a church, with a list of needs from pastors and unity to the persecuted church and the local town.
  • Traditional prayers are quoted from the 1928 Book of Common Prayer (“For the Church,” the Collect for Purity and the Prayer of St. Chrysostom), the Orthodox Great Litany in Hapgood’s 1906 translation and the 1888 Catholic 《祈祷手册》.
  • Numbers 6:24–26 and 2 Corinthians 13:14 are two scriptural blessings that can close a service.
