- Contexto bíblico y frecuencia: La mentira aparece cientos de veces en las Escrituras a través de varios términos hebreos y griegos. La Biblia condena constantemente la mentira por ser contraria a la naturaleza veraz de Dios, con ejemplos notables que incluyen a la serpiente en el Edén, el engaño de Abraham sobre Sara, y la mentira fatal de Ananías y Safira en Hechos.
- Consecuencias espirituales: La mentira separa a las personas de la verdad de Dios y puede conducir al endurecimiento espiritual y al juicio divino. Jesús enseñó una honestidad radical, mientras que los Padres de la Iglesia como Agustín consideraban que todas las mentiras eran pecaminosas, aunque algunos reconocían excepciones raras para proteger la vida.
