In the Bible, people dance when God has given them something to celebrate. David dances before the ark (2 Samuel 6:14), the women follow Miriam with tambourines and dancing after the Red Sea (Exodus 15:20), and Psalm 30:11 thanks God for turning mourning into dancing.
