Summary
- Genesis 6:15 gives the ark as 300 cubits long, 50 wide and 30 high: 450 by 75 by 45 feet (137 by 23 by 14 meters) at the common 18-inch cubit.
- At the Egyptian royal cubit of about 20.6 inches, the ark was 515 feet long. The Ark Encounter used 20.4 inches and is 510 feet long.
- Whatever the cubit, the ark is six times as long as it is wide and ten times as long as it is high.
- The ark is a quarter longer than an NFL field, end line to end line, and about half as long as Titanic.
- It is 41 percent of the length of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and 38 percent of the cruise ship Icon of the Seas.
- The Durupınar formation is given as 515 feet by the team studying it and 538 feet on a sketch by David Fasold; as of mid-October 2026, the samples drilled there have no published laboratory results.
- Augustine read the ark’s proportions as those of a human body, a figure of Christ, and its side door as the wound in his side.
