Prayers for Loved Ones: Protection, Health, Faith and Those Far Away

This one-sentence prayer is in the Family Prayer section of the Episcopal Church’s 1928 Book of Common Prayer.

Almighty God, we entrust all who are dear to us to thy never-failing care and love, for this life and the life to come; knowing that thou art doing for them better things than we can desire or pray for; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We all want our loved ones to be safe from harm. This prayer asks God to be a shield around them, protecting them physically, emotionally, and spiritually from the dangers of this world and the worries that attack their hearts.

Heavenly Father, You are our fortress and our refuge, a very present help in trouble. I lift up my loved one to You today and ask for Your divine protection to surround them completely. Be a shield before them, a guard behind them, and a canopy of grace above them.

Guard their body from sickness and accident. Guard their mind from anxiety, fear, and the lies that seek to discourage them. Guard their heart from bitterness, temptation, and the pain that can come from a broken world. Send Your angels to watch over them in all their ways, wherever their feet may take them.

In moments of weakness, be their strength. In times of danger, be their safe-house. Help them to feel the safety of Your presence, to know that they are never alone because You are with them. Let them rest in the truth that nothing can separate them from Your love. I place them in your loving and capable hands, trusting in Your sovereign care over every part of their life, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Life is full of choices, big and small. This prayer is a plea for God to grant our loved ones wisdom and clear direction, helping them navigate decisions with a heart that is aligned with His good and perfect will.

Lord of all wisdom, You see the path ahead when we cannot. I pray for my loved one, who faces choices and crossroads in their journey. Please grant them clarity and a discerning spirit to know right from wrong, and good from best.

Quiet the confusing voices of the world, of fear, and of selfish desire. Illuminate the path You have for them, making it plain and clear. Help them not to lean on their own understanding, but in all their ways to acknowledge You, so that You may direct their steps. Give them the courage to choose the path of integrity, kindness, and truth, even when it is the harder road to walk.

May their decisions honor You and bring goodness into their life and the lives of others. Let their heart’s desire be to follow You closely, trusting that Your plan is always for their ultimate good. Guide their thoughts, their words, and their actions today, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

We pray for our loved ones to be whole in body, mind, and spirit. This prayer is for God, the Great Physician, to bring His restorative touch to any area of their life that is wounded, sick, or broken.

Lord Jesus, our Healer, You walked the earth bringing wholeness and restoration to all who came to You. I bring my precious loved one before You now and ask for Your healing touch upon their life.

If they are sick in body, I pray for physical recovery and strength. Mend what is broken, soothe what is in pain, and eradicate every trace of illness. If they are wounded in spirit or struggling with a heavy heart, I pray for Your peace to calm their soul and for Your love to heal their emotional hurts. Restore their mind and protect them from despair.

Please give them the endurance to walk through this season of recovery and fill them with a sense of hope for the days ahead. Remind them that You are with them in this struggle, holding them close. Everyone faces seasons of trial and difficulty. This prayer asks God to pour out His supernatural strength into our loved ones, giving them the endurance and courage to stand firm when life feels overwhelming and heavy.

Almighty God, You are our rock and our strength. I pray for my loved one who is walking through a difficult valley right now. The weight on their shoulders is heavy, and their heart is weary. I ask that You would be their source of unshakeable strength.

When they feel they cannot take another step, please carry them. When their spirit feels crushed, breathe new life into them. Remind them that even though they may feel weak, Your power is made perfect in their weakness. A strong faith is the anchor of the soul. This prayer is a request for our loved ones’ relationship with God to deepen, for their trust in Him to become more solid, and for their heart to be more open to His love.

Father God, I pray for the spiritual life of my loved one. I ask that You would draw them into a closer, more vibrant relationship with You. Help their faith to be like a tree planted by streams of water, with deep roots that hold firm in any storm.

If they are struggling with doubt, reveal Yourself to them in a personal and powerful way. Reassure their heart of Your unfailing love and Your constant presence. If their faith feels stagnant, reignite a passion within them for Your Word and for spending time in prayer with You.

Protect them from apathy and distraction. Help them to see Your hand at work in their daily life and to grow in their understanding of Your grace and mercy. May their trust in You increase day by day, becoming the foundation upon which they build their entire life, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

The world can be a source of great anxiety and inner turmoil. This prayer asks God to give our loved ones a supernatural peace that guards their hearts and minds, and to be their ultimate source of comfort in any situation.

Prince of Peace, my loved one’s heart is troubled. The worries of life, the stresses of the day, and the uncertainties of tomorrow are weighing on them. I ask You to come and still their spirit with Your presence.

Pour out Your peace that surpasses all human understanding. Let it stand guard over their heart and their mind, protecting them from the grip of anxiety and fear. Quiet the storms raging within them and replace the chaos with a calm assurance that You are in control. Be their comforter, reminding them that they are seen, known, and deeply loved by You.

Help them to release their burdens into Your hands, trusting that You care for them more than they can imagine. Let them rest securely in Your unfailing love tonight and wake with a renewed sense of tranquility and hope, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Every person is created with unique gifts and a special purpose. This prayer is a heartfelt request for our loved ones to discover their God-given calling and to live a life full of meaning, significance, and passion.

Creator God, You designed my loved one with intention and for a unique purpose. You knit them together and know every gift and talent You placed within them. I pray that you would reveal this purpose to them with beautiful clarity.

Help them to see themselves the way You see them: as valuable, capable, and made for a reason. Remove any feelings of insignificance or confusion about their path. Open doors of opportunity that align with the gifts you have given them, and close doors that would lead them astray from Your best plan for their life.

Ignite a passion in their heart to use their talents not just for themselves, but for Your glory and for the good of others. May they walk confidently, knowing that their life has profound meaning and that they are a vital part of Your kingdom story, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Our relationships with family, friends, and spouses are so important. This prayer asks God to bless these connections, bringing harmony, understanding, forgiveness, and love, and healing any areas of conflict or brokenness.

Gracious Father, You created us for community and relationship. I lift up my loved one’s relationships to You today. I pray that You would bless their connections with family, friends, and colleagues. Pour out Your spirit of unity and peace.

Where there is conflict, bring reconciliation. Where there is misunderstanding, bring clarity and empathy. Give my loved one a heart that is quick to forgive, slow to anger, and generous with grace. Help them to be a source of encouragement, kindness, and support to those around them.

Protect their important relationships from division, jealousy, and bitterness. May their interactions be filled with mutual respect and genuine love. Help them to build and nurture connections that are healthy, life-giving, and centered on You, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Joy is a gift from God that goes deeper than happiness. This prayer is a request for our loved ones to be filled with genuine, resilient joy and for their lives to be marked by moments of lightheartedness and sincere laughter.

God of all Joy, I pray that You would fill my loved one’s heart to overflowing with Your joy. Not a temporary happiness that depends on circumstances, but a deep, abiding joy that comes from knowing You and being loved by You.

In the midst of life’s serious demands and struggles, I pray for moments of lightness. Bring people and situations into their life that make them smile and laugh from the depths of their soul. Help them to see the humor, the beauty, and the simple blessings in each day. Lift any spirit of heaviness from them and replace it with the oil of gladness.

Holding onto bitterness and resentment can poison the soul. This prayer is for God to cultivate a heart of forgiveness in our loved ones, enabling them to release past hurts and to extend grace to others as they have received it.

Merciful Father, You have shown us the ultimate example of forgiveness through Your Son. I pray for my loved one today, asking that You would cultivate within them a heart of forgiveness. Protect them from the poison of bitterness, resentment, and holding grudges.

If they are struggling to forgive someone who has hurt them deeply, I ask that You would give them the supernatural strength to let go. Heal the wounds that the offense caused and help them release the person from the debt they feel they are owed. Remind them of the freedom that comes when we choose to forgive.

Likewise, if they are burdened by guilt over their own mistakes, help them to fully receive Your complete and total forgiveness. Let them live in the freedom of Your grace, not in the chains of past failures. May their heart be soft and merciful, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

We all have needs—physical, financial, emotional, and spiritual. This prayer is an act of trust, asking God, our Provider, to faithfully meet all the needs of our loved ones and to calm any fears they have about lack.

Lord, You are Jehovah Jireh, our Great Provider. You own the cattle on a thousand hills, and You care for the sparrows. I lift up my loved one to You, trusting that You see their every need before they even ask.

I pray for Your provision in their life. Where there is financial worry, I pray for open doors, wisdom in stewarding resources, and peace of mind. Where there is emotional need, I pray You would provide comfort, friendship, and a sense of belonging. Where there is spiritual hunger, draw them to Yourself, the Bread of Life.

Help them to trust in Your faithful provision day by day, and to not be anxious about tomorrow. Remind them that their value is not in what they have, but in whose they are. May they rest in Your abundant generosity and goodness, knowing You will supply all they need, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

In a world that can often feel dark or discouraging, hope is the anchor for our soul. This prayer asks God to fill our loved ones with a powerful and unshakable hope that is founded on His promises, not on circumstances.

God of Hope, I pray for my loved one today. In a world where it can be easy to lose heart, I ask that You would fill them to overflowing with a living, breathing, and unshakable hope.

Be the anchor for their soul, holding them steady in any storm of life. When they look to the future and feel fear or uncertainty, remind them of Your faithfulness in the past. Turn their eyes toward Your eternal promises, which are true and can always be trusted. Let their hope not be in their own strength or in the world’s systems, but firmly in You and in the victory we have through Jesus Christ.

May this divine hope be a light within them that cannot be extinguished by disappointment or hardship. May it fuel their perseverance, inspire their dreams, and give them a deep, settled confidence in Your good plans for them, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
