Summary
- Short prayers for a wife cover the morning, thanks for her, sickness or pain, worry, tiredness, her work, her safety, her faith, the time after an argument, the marriage and the husband himself.
- The priestly blessing of Numbers 6:24–26, “The LORD bless thee, and keep thee,” can be said over a wife.
- Traditional prayers come from the wedding services: the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, the Catholic nuptial blessing in the 1888 Manual of Prayers (“pleasing to her husband like Rachel, wise like Rebecca”) and the Orthodox prayer after the Gospel of Cana in Hapgood’s 1906 translation.
- Genesis 25:21 records Isaac praying for Rebekah, and 1 Peter 3:7 tells husbands to honor their wives “that your prayers be not hindered.”
- A closing prayer is for a husband whose wife has died.
