Christian Prayer Hotlines: 19 Numbers to Call for Prayer and Support

For someone to pray with you by phone at any hour in the US, call the Billy Graham 24/7 Prayer Line at 855-255-7729, CBN’s 700 Club Prayer Center at 1-800-700-7000, or FaithPrayers at 1-866-515-9406. Every number below was checked against the ministry’s own website in September 2026.

If you are in danger or thinking about suicide

Prayer lines are not crisis services. If you are thinking about ending your life, or you are in danger, call one of these lines now. They are free, and all but the Russian line say they answer at any hour.

• United States: call or text 988.
• Canada: call or text 9-8-8.
• United Kingdom and Ireland: Samaritans, 116 123.
• Australia: Lifeline, 13 11 14.
• New Zealand: call or text 1737.
• South Africa: SADAG Suicide Crisis Helpline, 0800 567 567.
• Germany: TelefonSeelsorge, 0800 111 0 111 or 0800 111 0 222.
• Russia: the Children’s Helpline (Детский телефон доверия), 8-800-2000-122, free and anonymous, for children, teenagers and parents.

In immediate danger, call your local emergency number: 911 in the US and Canada, 999 or 112 in the UK, 000 in Australia, 111 in New Zealand, 112 in Russia and the European Union. For other countries, Find A Helpline (findahelpline.com) lists more than 1,700 helplines in over 175 countries.

Christian prayer lines in other countries

In Australia, the 1800Chaplain phone line has closed; its website remains as a set of resources. Lifeline, on 13 11 14, is Australia’s 24-hour crisis line.

For missionaries and other workers serving abroad, two Christian counseling centers work by appointment rather than by hotline: The Well International in Chiang Mai, Thailand (thewellintl.org), and the Olive Tree Counseling Center, now in Budapest, Hungary (olivetreecounseling.org).

Domestic abuse helplines

These national lines are free and confidential.

• United States: National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788. Any hour.
• United Kingdom: in England, the National Domestic Abuse Helpline, run by Refuge, 0808 2000 247; in Scotland, the Domestic Abuse and Forced Marriage Helpline, 0800 027 1234; in Wales, Live Fear Free, 0808 80 10 100; in Northern Ireland, the Domestic and Sexual Abuse Helpline, 0808 802 1414. All four answer at any hour. Men anywhere in the UK can call the Men’s Advice Line, 0808 801 0327.
• Ireland: Women’s Aid, 1800 341 900. Any hour.
• Canada: there is no single national line. The Government of Canada lists a crisis line for each province and territory at canada.ca.
• Australia: 1800RESPECT, 1800 737 732. Any hour.
• Russia: the all-Russian helpline for women affected by violence, 8 800 7000 600. Free from every region, any hour.

What happens when you call a Christian prayer line?

A volunteer or staff member answers, asks what you would like prayer for, and prays with you over the phone. The toll-free lines cost nothing to call. NZ Christian Prayerline and TelefonSeelsorge say callers can stay anonymous. FaithPrayers keeps calls confidential except where someone’s safety is at risk.

The people who answer are usually trained volunteers. FaithPrayers asks each of its prayer partners for a reference letter from their own pastor. The Billy Graham line is answered by trained staff and volunteers who also answer questions about faith, and Premier Lifeline’s volunteers listen and pray with callers of any faith or none. Prayer partners are not counselors. Focus on the Family and NAMI both say their lines are not crisis lines, and Focus on the Family directs anyone in crisis to 988.

Some numbers printed on older lists no longer reach the ministry they are listed under. The Trinity Broadcasting Network’s prayer page now takes requests through a web form and gives no phone number. TheHopeLine has replaced its phone line with live chat. No current official source could be found for the “1-800-4-PRAYER” line once run by the Assemblies of God. The number 866-903-3787, listed on some sites as a “Mental Health Hotline,” belongs to a website run by a for-profit company. Its own site says calls are answered by people who are not licensed professionals, and that it may refer callers to healthcare providers under the same ownership.

Why do Christians ask others to pray for them?

The New Testament tells believers to pray for one another. James wrote: “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16). Paul told the Galatians, “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2). Jesus promised: “if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:19–20). A prayer line puts that intercession within reach of anyone with a phone.
