Leo ist kein Name in der Bibel – aber der Löwe ist überall

  • Leo ist kein Personenname in der Bibel. Es ist das lateinische Wort für Löwe, und der Löwe taucht etwa einhundertfünfzig Mal auf, in mehr Zusammenhängen als jedes andere Tier.
  • Der Löwe von Juda beginnt mit Jakobs Segen (Genesis 49,9) und begleitet Davids Linie tausend Jahre lang.
  • Offenbarung 5,5-6 ist der Wendepunkt des Buches: Johannes wird aufgefordert, auf den Löwen zu schauen, und sieht ein Lamm, das aussieht, als wäre es geschlachtet worden. Der Austausch erfolgt ohne Kommentar.
  • Die Schrift verwendet den Löwen auch für Gefahr – 1. Petrus 5,8 – und Gott vergleicht sich in Hosea 5,14 mit einem, und zwar nicht auf sanfte Weise.
  • Vierzehn Päpste haben den Namen angenommen. Leo XIII. schrieb Rerum Novarum im Jahr 1891, und Leo XIV., gewählt im Mai 2025, sagte, er habe den Namen im Hinblick auf ihn gewählt, wegen einer neuen industriellen Revolution durch künstliche Intelligenz.
