The Bible’s range of emotion is wider than the verses usually quoted, and it guides feelings more often than it tells anyone to stop having them. Before “Jesus wept” (John 11:35), John says Jesus was “deeply moved in his spirit” (11:33). The Greek verb comes from a word for snorting with anger, and Mark uses it for a stern warning and an angry rebuke (Mark 1:43; 14:5).
