  • アリウス派は、イエス・キリストを被造物であり、父なる神と共永続的ではないと教えたアリウスに端を発し、初期キリスト教において重大な神学的論争を引き起こした。
  • 紀元325年のニカイア公会議はアリウス派を退け、イエスを「造られたものではなく、生まれたもの」であり、父と同一の本質（ホモウーシオス）を持つと宣言するニカイア信条を承認した。
  • アリウス派は教会内に深い分裂をもたらし、聖アタナシオスや他の教父たちが、キリストの本性と三位一体に関する正統的な信仰を擁護するきっかけとなった。
