Bakhita was about nine when slave traders seized her in Darfur and gave her the name she kept, Arabic for "fortunate one", then sold her again and again. An Italian consul bought her and took her to Italy, where with the Canossian Sisters she came to know the God she called her "paron", her master, was baptised in 1890, and became a sister who spent forty-five years as cook, sacristan and doorkeeper at Schio. "If I were to meet those men who abducted me, or even those who tortured me, I would kneel and kiss their hands," she said, and in 2015 her feast was kept as a Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking.

祝日、2つの暦、そして守護聖人
聖人の祝日とは、教会が礼拝の中でその聖人を記念する毎年恒例の日のことであり、ほとんどの聖人にとってそれは彼らが亡くなった日です。これらはキリスト教の暦の中で最も古い祝日の一部です。4世紀の復活祭とペンテコステ、クリスマスと公現祭に続き、教会が守り始めた次の祝日は使徒や殉教者の祝日でした。
多くの聖人には、西洋教会と正教会が何世紀にもわたって別々に暦を構築してきたため、検索ツールに2つの日付が表示されることがあります。同じ聖人を異なる日に記念することもあります。西洋教会は聖ユダを聖シモンと共に10月28日に記念しますが、正教会は6月19日に記念します。ロシア正教会のように、現在でも古いユリウス暦に従っている正教会もあり、これは現在の暦より13日遅れているため、彼らの12月6日は私たちの12月19日にあたります。そのような場合、検索ツールには両方の日付が表示されます。
