Dreaming About Triplets: The Bible Gives It No Meaning

  • Scripture records no dream of triplets and gives no meaning to one. A dream is not a promise of a pregnancy, and it is unkind to say otherwise.
  • There are no triplets in the Bible, but twins appear three times: Jacob and Esau, Perez and Zerah, and Thomas called Didymus, “the Twin.”
  • Each set turns on the assumption that birth order settles something — and each time the assumption is overturned. The midwife ties a scarlet thread and the wrong brother comes out first; Perez enters the genealogy of Christ.
  • The pattern runs throughout: Isaac not Ishmael, Jacob not Esau, Ephraim not Manasseh with Israel’s hands crossed on purpose, David left with the sheep.
  • Hannah’s prayer was inaudible and misjudged by the priest, and God heard it (1 Samuel 1:13-17).
