17 Bible Verses About Abundance



  • The Old Testament passages describe abundance in farming terms: rain, grain, new wine and oil (Deuteronomy 28:12, Psalm 65:11, Joel 2:24-26, Proverbs 3:10).
  • Deuteronomy 28 and Malachi 3 tie the overflow to obedience and to the tithe, and Deuteronomy 28:15-24 sets curses of drought beside the blessings of rain.
  • In John 10:10, “to the full” translates perissos, more than sufficient, which the King James Version renders “more abundantly.”
  • Luke 12:15 warns that life does not consist in an abundance of possessions, and the parable that follows is about a rich man building bigger barns.
  • 2 Corinthians 9:8 and 1 Timothy 6:17-19 say what abundance is for: every good work, generosity, and being rich in good deeds.

In the Bible, abundance begins with God, who fills the earth with living things and sends the rain that fills the barns. Jesus says he came so that his sheep may have life “to the full” (John 10:10), and he also warns that life does not consist in an abundance of possessions (Luke 12:15).
