23 Bible Verses About God Being With Us

  • Matthew translates the name Immanuel as “God with us” (Matthew 1:23), and his Gospel closes with Jesus promising, “I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
  • In Exodus 33:14 the Hebrew word for presence is panim, face, and Moses answers that he will not go on unless God’s presence goes with the people.
  • “He will not leave you or forsake you” is promised to Israel and to Joshua in Deuteronomy 31 and Joshua 1, and Hebrews 13:5 repeats it to its readers.
  • Paul calls the church in Corinth “God’s temple,” in which God’s Spirit dwells (1 Corinthians 3:16), and later calls each believer’s body “a temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:19).
  • Revelation 21:3 uses the Greek word for a tent or tabernacle for God’s dwelling with his people, and its verb is the one John 1:14 uses for the Word who “dwelt among us.”

The Bible says God is with his people: he goes with them, lives among them and in them, and will be with them forever. The promise runs from “My presence will go with you” (Exodus 33:14) through the name Immanuel, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23), to “God himself will be with them” (Revelation 21:3).
