17 Bible Verses About Letting Go

  • 1 Peter 5:7 and Psalm 55:22 both tell the reader to cast anxiety or cares on God, and in Psalm 55 the burden is betrayal by a close friend.
  • Isaiah 43:18-19 tells Israel not to dwell on the former things right after recalling the way the Lord made through the sea.
  • Paul’s “forgetting what is behind” in Philippians 3:13 follows a list of his own credentials, including his persecution of the church.

In the Bible, letting go takes several forms. Anxiety is cast on God (1 Peter 5:7, Psalm 55:22), the former things give way to a new thing (Isaiah 43:18-19), bitterness is got rid of (Ephesians 4:31-32), and a life held too tightly is lost (Matthew 16:24-25).
