Summary

  • The Song of Songs gives the charge “Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires” at 2:7 and 3:5, and in shorter form at 8:4.
  • 1 Corinthians 7:39 lets a widow marry “anyone she wishes,” on the condition that “he must belong to the Lord.”
  • 2 Corinthians 6:14 forbids being “yoked together with unbelievers,” and the verses after it set the command beside the temple of God and idols.

The Bible does not describe dating as it is practised now, so what it says to someone with a boyfriend comes from passages about love and desire, marriage, sexual conduct and character.
